For documentary purposes the German Federal Archive often retained the original image captions, which may be erroneous, biased, obsolete or politically extreme. Schon in den frühen Morgenstunden des Sonntags[22.9.1944] drängen sich im ganzen Reich vor den Meldestellen des Volkssturmes Männer aller Schichten und Altersklassen, um sich in die Listen eintragen zu lassen. Der Arbeiter stand neben dem Geschäftsinhaber, der Handwerker neben dem Beamten.
