This is a detailed copperplate produced map of the world. Hand-colored paintings of landscape scenes, animals, planets, etc. surround the map as well as explanatory paintings of astronomical and geographycal subjects
The title on the case in which the map is housed is "Dōban Chikyū Zu". The original title, however, was "Chikyū Zenzu", which is on the map. "Kokusho Sōmokuroku" lists the title of a 1793 revised edition of this map as "Chikyū Zenzu Ryakusetsu"
The cartographer and author was a famous scholar, and Japanese pioneer in western science
Several diagrams show eclipses of the sun and moon, the full and crescent moon, views from the North, South, East, and West
The introduction states that because of scientific development, the Japanese need to know more than just China, Korea, and East Asia
