Handwritten copy of letter. Whereabouts of original manuscript unknown
Since William Lloyd Garrison and Samuel May's birthdays are so near to each other, he sends his good wishes. Garrison turned sixty years of age on Dec. 10th and May turned eighty-nine on Dec. 4th. Garrison speaks of the life to come. He comments: "My will be as God's will, and his time my time." He remarks that few have reached the age of eighty-nine "with their sight, hearing, and mental faculties so very slightly impaired." He is grateful to the Lord for having been permitted to live long enough to see the slave freed. He praises Samuel May's son and nephew for their efforts in the cause of freedom
