Notes
  • Significance: The present aqueduct over Broad Run Creek is the only aqueduct with a wooden flume still in existence along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The existing structure was built during the winter months of 1856-7 by the canal company; it replaced an earlier temporary flume. The original two span masonry aqueduct was destroyed by a flood in July of 1846. The aqueduct serves to illustrate a stage in the canal's development and the means restored to in the repair and maintenance of the system.
