  • Dansk: Muligvis identisk med: "j Prindtsen aff Engeland hanss Contrefey wdi een forgylt Ramme", som nævnes på Frederiksborg Slot i 1650 (A. Petersen (ed.), "Frederiksborg Slots Inventarium af 1650", Danske Samlinger, vol. II (Kjøbenhavn 1866-67), p. 151), men både Paul van Somer (KMSsp184) (Charles I) (s.d.) og formentlig "Carl Stuart klædt i rødt", der nævnes i Peder Als-listen af 1775 (5te Artikel No. 24, Højde 2 Alen 23 Tommer, Bredde 2 Alen 5 Tommer, uden ramme), kan. som det synes, og med lige så stor sandsynlighed, komme i betragtning.

Placeringshistorie: - 1793: fra Frederiksborg, hvor det 1775 blev ophængt i Riddersalen

- Kunstkammerets Inventar tome IV p. 13 nr. 788 - Afleveringsliste til Frederiksborg Slots Riddersal 5. artikel nr. 1 "Kong Carolus Stuart af Engeland" [som af van Dyck] Højde 3 Alen 9½ Tommer. Bredde 1 Alen 10 Tommer. [Det er næppe sandsynligt, at der, som bla. antaget af Karl Madsen (Billeder af Rembrandt og hans Elever, 1911, p. 81) er tale om en egentlig afleveringsliste. Billederne synes at være blevet udvalgte blandt malerier, der allerede på daværende tidspunkt befand tsig på Frederiksborg. (Cf. listens datering "på Frederiksborg" og Francis Beckett: Frederiksborg II (1914) p. 221 med note p. 270) [O.K. 29.7.1971]]

Katalognumre: - Et usigneret og udateret M.S. (som dog måske kan dateret til omkr. 1800), muligvis et udkast til et "katalog" på fransk over Kunstkammeret (Museets arkiv), nævner i forbindelse med en udførlig beskrivelse af billedet (stadig med en tilskrivning til Van Dyck), at "Le Tableau...a été son present de la mere de le prince [dvs. le Roi Charles I d'Angleterre], á son frére, le Roi de Danemarc Christian" Dette kan selvsagt ikke være rigtigt, da Queen Anne of Denmark døde i 1619.
