Description
Deutsch: Das Fliegerdenkmal wurde 1923 errichtet und befindet sich am Westhang der Wasserkuppe, oberhalb von Abtsroda. Es erinnert an die gefallenen Feldpiloten des Ersten Weltkriegs (1914–1918). Das Fliegerdenkmal wurde auf einem ehemaligen Vulkanschlot errichtet. Carl Oskar Ursinus hat diesen Ort für eine jährliche Gedenkfeier bestimmt. Die Skulptur wurde vom Bildhauer und Tierplastiker August Gaul geschaffen. Gegossen wurde sie in der Kunstgießerei Noack in Berlin. Die Inschrift lautet:
