  • Significance: When oil baron Frank Phillips built this home, his was a lonely mansion on an oil-soaked prairie. Phillips had the streets around his house paved and streetlights installed. The Greek Revival home was decorated with Filipino mahogany. The grounds were planted in American elms and red cedars. Gracious living was set to begin. As Phillips' bank account grew, so did his trees. On summer evenings the founder of Phillips Petroleum would fling open the french door of the mansion, letting the sound of the cicadas and mockingbirds in the branches of the young trees float into the house and mix with the human voices inside...
