English: LIBI_00019_00496; This item is copy No. 2 of an albumen photograph of General and Mrs. George A. Custer eating at camp headquarters near Fort Hayes, Kansas. The photograph is 5 5/8 x 8 1/4" (8" x 10" mounted). As noted in D. Mark Katz's book, the image was produced in 1869 and is attributable to W.J. Phillips of Preston, Missouri. A tissue overlay was originally included with the photograph but is now missing. On the verso, a handwritten notation reads, "Camp on Big Creek Kansas are in the [illegible words]." Handwritten description provided by Elizabeth B. Custer.Note: "Box 5" is handwritten on the verso.Photograph reprinted in "The Custer Album" by Lawrence A.
