Description
English: The relief depicts Bankside early in the C17th, showing the Globe Theatre, St Saviour’s (which became Southwark Cathedral) and old London Bridge. The medallion bust of Shakespeare is 'after the Droeshout portrait'.

Below Shakespeare's bust, as if on its plinth is the inscription "Here stood the Globe Playhouse of Shakespeare, 1598 - 1613"

At the bottom right of the relief is the inscription "Wm. Martin MA, LLD, FSA - designer, Ed. Lanteri - S."

Along the bottom of the plaque is the inscription

"Commemorated by the Shakespeare Reading Society of London and by subscribers in the United Kingdom and India."
