English: Bradford - Paignton express near Haresfield. View northward, towards Gloucester, Cheltenham, Birmingham and the North. Rebuilt 'Royal Scot' 7P 4-6-0 No. 46130 'The West Yorkshire Regiment' is forging down towards Bristol on the 09.20 Bradford (Forster Square) to Paignton relief to the 'Devonian' (made up partly of ex-LNER stock) on a peak Summer Saturday. This left-hand pair of tracks carried the ex-Midland Birmingham (New St.) - Bristol traffic, passing through Haresfield Station (sited in the background, closed 4/1/65). The right-hand pair of tracks carried the ex-Great Western traffic (eschewing Haresfield) from Gloucester (and South Wales via Chepstow) and Cheltenham to Swindon, also carrying GWR trains from Birmingham (Snow Hill) via Stratford-on-Avon and Cheltenham to Bristol, which shared metals with the Midland trains between Standish Junction and Yate. |
