| Description |
English: Military Leave train at Hitchin with ex-GE 0-6-0. View northward, towards Peterborough etc. on the ECML, Bedford on the ex-Midland line and Cambridge. For many years after World War Two a special train for Servicemen continued at weekends between Hitchin and Henlow Camp station on the Bedford line. Gresley suburban 'quad-art' stock was used, hauled by an LNER locomotive. Here standing at the Down platform the train from Henlow Camp is headed by ex-GE Holden J15 0-6-0 No. 65479 (the last built, in 9/13 as GE No. 551, LNE No. 7551 until 1946 then No. 5479, surviving until 8/60). |
