Description

Svenska: Fäste av genombrutet stål med till kappan uppsvängd, bred och skålad parerplåt med genombruten, ciselerad ornering av rankornament. På utsidans mitt ett krönt trekronorsvapen med serafimerkedja och lejon som sköldhållare. På insidan ett gotiskt C under kronprinskrona, omgivet av eklövs-och lagerkrans.
Kavel klädd med svärtat fiskskinn. Kappa och ryggskena av polerat stål. På kappans överdel i oval sköld Östergötlands vapen under kronprinskrona.

Klinga rak, tvåeggad, flackslipad med etsad imitation av damaskering. På basens utsida tvärställd signering: "A.F.HAGSTRÖM // STOCKHOLM" (slagen 2 ggr). Därefter längsgående inskription i runskrift:"Tirfing". Runorna ifyllda med svart färg.

Sabeln har tillhört Karl XV under kronprinstiden (1844-1859, han var dock hertig av Skåne och inte av Östergötland - sabeln kan möjligen också ha tillhört Oskar II som var hertig av Östergötland). Adolf Fredrik Hagström (f.1817) var rustmästare i Stockholm och även känd som bössmakare.

Svärdet Tirfing (Tyrfing, Tyrfingr) smiddes under tvång av dvärgarna Dulin och Dvalin åt Odens sonson Svafrlame. Dvärgarna förbannade svärdet - det skulle bli en mans bane varje gång det drogs, tre nidingsdöd skulle begås med det och det skulle bli Svafrlames egen död. Svafrlames dödades av kämpen Arngrim och svärdet övergick sedan i sonen Angantyrs ägo. Vid A:s död lades svärdet i hans gravhög.
