Leiden's ontzet herdacht; Weekjournaal van Polygoon Hollands Nieuws van week 40 uit 1949.; Voor de 375e keer wordt Leidens Ontzet gevierd. Traditioneel bestaat deze uit twee delen: uitdeling van haring en wittebrood en de historische optocht. - Als Geuzen verklede roeiers varen door de grachten; veel publiek op de wal kijkt toe hoe de boten tonnen haring en wittebrood vervoeren en hoe deze lading bij de Waag wordt gelost. In een koets arriveert prins 'Willem de Zwijger'; door een dichte haag mensen gaat hij de Waag binnen. Binnen deelt hij haring en wittebrood uit aan de mensen; - door de straten trekt een historische optocht voorbij, oa een boot met Geuzen; een reusachtige ketel hutspot; een bloemenwagen die de Leidse Burcht voorstelt; burgemeester Van de Werff die de burgerij zijn eigen leven aanbiedt; een praalwagen van de faculteiten van de Leidse Universiteit; op de stoepen staat het publiek rijen dik toe te kijken.
