Summary edit

Description
English: The interior of London General MEC48 (BT09 GPE), a Mercedes-Benz Citaro, in Cab Road, Waterloo, Lambeth (borough), London outside London Waterloo railway station, on route 507. Due to Boris Johnson's decision to stop the use of articulated buses, purely on a political basis, bendy buses began to be banished from London's streets from 2009. The first route to change over was the 507, one of the Red Arrow routes, which were most suited to articulated operation. The routes carry commuters over relatively short distances from mainline railway termini, so having to stand is not a problem. One argument against artics is that they are like cattle trucks. However, as seen here, the replacement vehicles in on route 507 (and 521) have just two or three seats in the front section, with a huge gap where you're just meant to stand up, and only have 21 seats overall. Standard specification Citaros have 40 seats, so these buses are just as cattle-truck like as before. Another argument against artics is the open boarding system used on them (though it is not actually mutually exclusive to the use of artics), yet the 507 and 521 still retain open boarding. And that's before you even mention the environmental impacts of having twice as many bus engines out on the routes, paying twice as many drivers and the total roadspace used by all the buses being more with rigids than with artics.
