Description
Nederlands: Een geschonken obus is de herinnering aan de opvang van vluchtelingen bij de familie Heymans in de Kerkhofdries te Sint-Amands. De vluchtelingen waren kinderen van het gezin Vuylsteke-Parreyt uit de omgeving van Roeselare. Zij kwamen in de streek toe einde 1917. Zij werden bij de plaatselijke bevolking opgevangen. Vader Vuylsteke was reeds overleden op 06/08/1914 te Wandrée (als soldaat van het 9e linieregiment). Emma Parreyt kwam waarschijnlijk niet mee als vluchteling. De kinderen zijn terug naar huis gegaan begin 1919 en als dank werd een obus met inscriptie opgestuurd met als tekst: "1914 - Gedachtenis van den oorlog - 1919/De familie Parreyt."
