Toelichting Dit is een afgietsel in was van een model voor de portretplaquette van Prof. Dr. J. Bosscha, afkomstig uit de nalatenschap van de beeldhouwer Bart van Hove. Deze maakte het portretje vermoedelijk in 1907 toen Bosscha werd onderscheiden met een eredoctoraat in de technische wetenschappen, wegens zijn grote verdiensten als natuurkundige. Het wasmodel is uitzonderlijkerwijs bewaard gebleven samen met een afgietsel in brons zodat twee stadia in het arbeidsproces van een beeldhouwer zijn gedocumenteerd. Wat precies de status van dit wasmodel is is echter - bij gebrek aan andere documentatie - niet met zekerheid vast te stellen. Waarschijnlijk betreft het een reservemodel dat de kunstenaar behield voor eventueel later gebruik.
