At this point, the traveler was 62 miles from Los Angeles, or 64 miles from Bakersfield, hence the name of this establishment. Little is known about it today or even where its precise location was - it's difficult to locate its foundations. Being a very wide spot on the road's east side, with even more room down a small hill to the east, Kelly's was a very roomy spot for gasoline, lunch, or getting auto repairs done. Its seclusion from the road today draws activity that not all people would find desirable. Photo from private collection of avnative.
