Notes
  • Significance: The opening of the Kenilworth Mine in 1907 marked the beginning of the second phase of development in Utah's coal industry. The first phase was marked by a complete monopoly of the railroads over coal production, and the second phase was marked by the entrance of a number of local independent producers into the industry. The Independent Coal and Coke Company's mine was the first of the independents established.
