Description
Nederlands: Jan, de kleinzoon van Frans Wuyts vertelde het verhaal.

Zijn grootvader had zijn legerdienst vervuld in 1909 bij de genietroepen. In 1914 werd hij gemobiliseerd in de Westhoek als geniesoldaat aan het front voor een termijn van 4 jaar. In 1916 werd hij het slachtoffer van een chloorgasaanval waardoor hij tijdelijk blind werd. Hij werd gehospitaliseerd in Engeland waar hij tyfus kreeg en waar hij ook een speciale bril kreeg voor zijn blindheid.

Frans had een oorlogsmoeder in Noord-Frankrijk waar hij terecht kon tijdens zijn verloven.
