Notes
  • Significance: The New Shoreham Bridge is the earliest intact example of a reinforced concrete T-beam bridge in Rhode Island. Built under the adverse conditions of isolated location, material scarcity due to World War I, and unfavorable weather; the bridge was designed by Clarene Hussey, the first State Bridge Engineer of the Rhode Island State Board of Public Roads and nationally-recognized authority on bridge engineering. It was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places on May 11, 1992 through consensus between the RISHPO and the Federal Highway Administration.
  • Survey number: HAER RI-42
