Description |
English: This throne was intended for Napoleon I to sit on during the sessions of the Legislative Body created by the Constitution of the Year VIII. An arched pediment sculpted with a beribboned laurel crown surmounts the imposing hair, with a pair of impressive winged, lion-headed chimera as elbow-rests. The backrest features the symbols of justice (a sword and the hand of justice), the seat a large rosette with flowers buds and palms. During the Restoration, stylised pinecones replaced the two imperial eagles crowning the uprights and the «N» for Napoleon in the centre of the pediment's laurel crown disappeared. |
