Dit zomerse park, dat later door Van Gogh als 'het schilderij van de tuin met geliefden' werd omschreven, is een van de grootste doeken die hij in Parijs maakte. In Van Goghs werk is het een van de meest ver doorgevoerde voorbeelden van de pointillistische schilderwijze, waarmee hij zich in de zomer van 1887 intensief bezighield.

This summery park scene, later referred to by Van Gogh as 'the painting of the garden with courting couples', is one of the largest works he made during his stay in Paris. It is also one of the most pronounced examples of his experiments with Pointillism, with which he was much occupied during the summer of 1887.
