  • Scope and content: When members of the United Nations Forces moved north over the 38th Parallel into the well-known industrial cities, they found gutted buildings and mounds of twisted steel, that were formerly vital to Communistic Korea's military forces. Targets such as the large marshalling yards of Pyongyang, the oil refinery at Wonsan, and the key Kan-ni Arsenal near Pyongyang, are evidence of the efforts put forth by the U.S. Air Force B-29s flying the long air miles from bases in Japan and Okinawa. Upon request from the United Nations, bombardiers of the huge bombers, paid close attention to pin-pointed military targets, and left surrounding civilian homes and business sections almost untouched. B-29s of the U.S. Air Force drop their 500-pound bombs on a strategic target in North Korea. These planes have devastated enemy North Korean supply lines, industrial areas and troop concentrations with their precision bombing.
