| Description |
English: The rear of Wightbus 5863 (HW54 DBZ), a Dennis Dart SLF/Plaxton Pointer MPD, in River Road, Yarmouth, Isle of Wight, on route 35. Due to continuing problems with the reimbursement rate for concessionary free travel, from 5 September 2010 Southern Vectis route 7 was revised. The previous service that alternated between serving Calbourne, Newbridge, Wellow & Thorley and Shalfleet, Cranmore & Bouldnor was stopped, with all journeys running via Shalfleet, then Wellow and Thorley. This left Calbourne, Newbridge, Cranmore and Bouldnor with no bus service at all. To compensate, route 35 was extended from its old terminus of Newtown to Yarmouth via Calbourne, Newbridge, Cranmore and Bouldnor. A new service structure started. The bus runs a short journey from Calbourne to Yarmouth, before then running to Newport (it is seen here having just started this journey) via Bouldnor, Cranmore, Newbridge, Calbourne, Newtown (where the route traditionally started) and over the existing route to Newport. In the afternoon the same thing happens in reverse. From the same date, route 35 stopped operating daily, instead running Tuesdays and Thursdays only. Route 36 (which runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) was also extended to Yarmouth to cover the same sections of route on the other days of the week. |
