| Description |
English: I built this cluster with a couple of my roommates back in college. We had no concept of what it was doing to our hydro bill at the time, but it was great fun!
Built on a budget of a few hundred dollars, it was comprised entirely of old 486 DX machines; mostly Compaq and IBM ex-corporate workstations from ReBoot (thanks guys!). Equivalent to about a single 1GHz machine (which was brand new at the time) we compiled kernels and crunched SETI packets, but mostly just enjoyed seeing it work. It sat in our basement for a year or two before we finally threw it out. It took up quite a bit of room, but it heated the basement well. I miss it. |
