This is an unripe squash

This picture has caused some confusion on several wikipedia pages, for example https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion:Melon_(plante).

The pictured fruit is not that of a melon plant (Cucumis melo). It is the fruit of Cucurbita maxima, you can unmistakenly tell by the corky stem. Cultivars of Cucurbita some times have have the word melon in their name, for example: Tahiti Melon, Melon de Malabar and Melonette Jaspée de Vendée. There is also the Coyote Melon, which is the fruit of Cucurbita palmata (not a melon plant either).
