The construction followed the plans of Parisian architect Gobineau de la Bretonnerie and took 7 years to complete until it was inagurated in 1853. The casino is owned and operated by a public company, controlled by the government and ruling family, that also owns the principal hotels, sports clubs and restaurants, but does not allow the entrance to Monaco citizens.
