Merge DE Wikisource Book into this template?

See here Multichill (talk) 19:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

I have done it once already. See here. --Jarekt (talk) 03:30, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
See my bump over there. Multichill (talk) 10:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
  Done they are merged --Jarekt (talk) 04:11, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Check and move to TranslateWiki ?

As this template is quite close to Information, it should not be very difficult to move the translations to TranslateWiki (several fields could already be used − actually, when I just added an 'other versions' field, I logically used the system message).

What about a last check (maybe a call on the Village Pump?) to be sure we did not forget anything of importance in the (many) fields of this template ? And then bring it to Commons:Localization ?

Jean-Fred (talk) 16:05, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

Probably a good plan. Please check if all field from DE Wikisource Book are also in so we can consolidate that template. Next up are Painting and Creator. Multichill (talk) 16:20, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
A lot of templates were merged with this template. Is this template stable now? If so I can move it to translatewiki. I'll import all the current translations to prevent duplicate work. Not sure when I have time for this. Multichill (talk) 18:36, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
I am not planning on any more big changes to this template. A move to transwiki would be very appreciated, since many field labels are shared with Information all those fields already use transwiki. I can imagine this can be confusing for our translators here when some fields shows up in a wrong language and can not be changed see for example Template:Book/ar. I would like to propose to keep 2 layer approach Book calling in order to keep all the parameter wrangling and categorization in the first one and a clean layout in the second one. --Jarekt (talk) 01:32, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
We'll see. I first have to move the actual messages. I'll keep you posted (here). Multichill (talk) 10:03, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

What do you guys think? Multichill (talk) 16:18, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Various authors is an odd-ball, which can be used with other templates as well. I was planning to create various with LangSwitch for it and use it within this template. Also wm-license-book-title should be the same as wm-license-artwork-title. We need one or the other but not both. --Jarekt (talk) 16:54, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Ok. Removed various authors from the list. One redundant message is better than suboptimization so I'll just keep both title messages. We can of course prefill them to reduce the amount of work. Any last remarks before I implement this? Multichill (talk) 18:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
No, I think we are ready to go. --Jarekt (talk) 02:36, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Added the messages and I'm importing the current messages now. Multichill (talk) 22:15, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Ready to merge

Book and are ready to be merged with the translatewiki messages. I'll probably do that later this week. Multichill (talk) 19:40, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

  Done I started using new translations, and merged Book and . --Jarekt (talk) 03:28, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Deletion of unused language sub templates is completed. --Jarekt (talk) 19:30, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Template:Livre

another candidate to merge here. --Martin H. (talk) 12:26, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

  Done I rewrote Livre to use Book template.--Jarekt (talk) 03:45, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

Wow, that was quick. Thanks for your work. --Martin H. (talk) 09:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
Do you think it's possible to use a template for the wikisource part? If everything is working we can substitute Livre and nuke it, Multichill (talk) 10:38, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
I think we could add wikisource link to current Book template and than we could run a bot to switch from Livre to Book. I was thinking about cleaning up this template and merging it with related templates; however, I will not start on a new project until I am done with cleanup of Painting. Which will likely be renamed, some fields added/renamed and eventually merged with Meta information museum and its 46 sub-versions. So that might take a while, unless someone else would like to give it a shoot. --Jarekt (talk) 02:14, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

number of pages

Shouldn't a "pages" paramter be added ? libraries do that. Beside, it would allow to use the template for files in Category:ENVT thesis digitized by Wikimedia France without any loss of info.--Zolo (talk) 09:12, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

DE Wikisource Image

Another merge candidate. Multichill (talk) 17:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

See Template talk:DE Wikisource Image --Jarekt (talk) 04:11, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Merging of dozen competing Book/Wikisource templates is completed

Recently during cleanup of Book I merged capabilities of various competing templates into Book and replaced other templates. Those templates included: DE Wikisource Book, DE Wikisource Image, DE Wikisource Magazine, DE Wikisource PDF, DE Wikisource djvu, PL Wikisource Image, PL Wikisource Book, Scanned Russian Book, Scanned English Book, Scanned Italian Book, Polish Wikisource book, Livre and InfoLivre.

Looking at different uses of the template I like the best the approach when a single book template is created for each book and used on all pages of the book and in parent directory. Although many books already have a designated book template used for all the pages, those templates are often not used in the parent category. For example Category:De Kant Critik der reinen Vernunft (1781) calls its own Book which seems to be better than De Kant Critik Vernunft. Many book templates could be improved by merging them with templates transcribed in parent categories. This task would be best accomplished by German speaker since most of those templates are in German. --Jarekt (talk) 13:39, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Good work Jarekt! Multichill (talk) 20:27, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Autolink license

The license field used to be autolinked. Removing that was a good thing, but it left many books (such as File:Chasseriau - Précis de l’abolition de l’esclavage dans les colonies anglaises (3).djvu) with plain text instead of the copyright tag. Could a bot operator add some fancy curly braces ? Jean-Fred (talk) 22:19, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

I will look into it. --Jarekt (talk) 02:09, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Autolinking was retired in end of 2009. File:Chasseriau - Précis de l’abolition de l’esclavage dans les colonies anglaises (3).djvu was uploaded on July 8, 2010 so at the time of upload this feature was already long gone. But either way I will try to identify files that might have this problem and fix them. --Jarekt (talk) 02:22, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Sorry if I was unclear about what I meant by "autolinked", but this feature was removed on 14 September 2010. (I found it hard to believe that I made 1400 files uploaded with such an obvious mistake ;-).
Thanks for looking into this! Jean-Fred (talk) 07:50, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
I will fix it. I still can not figure out at which changes caused the problem, so lets not worry about it. I found about http://toolserver.org/~magnus/catscan_rewrite.php?language=commons&project=wikimedia&categories=Scanned_French_books_in_DjVu%7C1&negcats=Public+domain%7C4&ns[6]=1 1400 files] in Category:Scanned_French_books_in_DjVu, which I will try to fix. Some of the files use Information and never had a license, like this one, other use Book. This issue illustrates why I do not like templates which add licenses - it is easy to change template and loose large number of licenses with no record of what happen at the file level. --Jarekt (talk) 14:05, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

  Done All fixed --Jarekt (talk) 15:53, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikisource link

Doesn't point anywhere, and not sure whether it ever did. If nothing else, we can wrap the title to create the wikilink.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:29, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikisource icon is only shown when "Wikisource=" argument is passed of it has a link in form s:xx:source_name than it works fine. --Jarekt (talk) 14:07, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
Some of links to German Wikisource had some issues which were fixed. Check if it works now. --Jarekt (talk) 16:29, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Auto-categorization

Per Commons:Village_pump#Small_problem_with_book_template_and_categories discussion, I am planning on removing autocategorization of pages using Book template:

{{#ifeq:NAMESPACE|File||{{#if:{{{Title|{}}}}|{{DEFAULTSORT:{{{Title|{} }}} }} }} }}
{{#ifexist:Category:{{{Date|{}}}}|}}
{{#switch: {{lc:{{{Author|{author}}}}}}
 |unbekannt|anonymous=
 |verschiedene|various|various authors=
 |#default=
}}

In last few days I was adding above categories and DEFAULTSORT directly to all PDF, djvu files and all categories transcluding this template, using template:Book/subst. See contribution of user:JarektBot. Once this process is done I will remove above code. --Jarekt (talk) 04:07, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Good job, kill the Auto-categorization! ;-) Multichill (talk) 09:52, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
  Done --Jarekt (talk) 03:22, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Great \o/. Thanks for your dedicated work Jarekt. Jean-Fred (talk) 09:28, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

missing licenses

which fool changes a template an removes the lisence more thna 100 000 pages ar missing pd-old. revert this nonsense! --Joergens.mi (talk) 15:20, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

I looked at licenses of files in Category:De_Wikisource_book and found some files with missing licenses lost in switch to Book - those were fixed. Also found many files which never had licenses and never used any Book templates - those are fixed now too. See [6=1&templates_no=PD-Layout&ext_image_data=1 CatScan 2 results] --Jarekt (talk) 20:10, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Linkback field

I am planning on adding a Linkback field to this template similar to linkback fields in Creator and Museum. The purpose would be add an easy link to be used for finding specialized book templates build on top of Book to make fixing / improving them more easy. --Jarekt (talk) 17:39, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

  Done --Jarekt (talk) 19:28, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Errant leading space somewhere in City parameter

Somewhere city = or City is picking up a leading space as it is displays things like

London

 — billinghurst sDrewth 02:05, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

  Done My fault, but all fixed now --Jarekt (talk) 03:00, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
