Edit request May 2007 edit

{{Editprotected}} Todo:

  • "date" should be an argument that can be used instead of "1"
  • Other image?
  • Create templates for articles and templates that have been kept. Or can this template be altered to be used also for those?

Fred Chess 15:25, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Donno about the 'date', but I've replaced the image (which appears to be likable) and now with the {{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}} - the template can be used on everything. Yuval Y § Chat § 16:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
Didn't work... Seems as we need a code such as "if the name space is _talk, use the SUBJECTSPACE instead"... Yuval Y § Chat § 16:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Edit request March 2010 edit

  • Bold the text and link "here", please.

I don't think the template needs to be fully protected. It is only used on talk pages. The effects of vandalism are minimal.

Fred J (talk) 10:05, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

  Done. --The Evil IP address (talk) 13:47, 12 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you :)
I now realized that the text wasn't actually on this page, but on Template:Kept/en, so I changed it there.
Apparently I need some more time to get on track with the technical development...

German text edit

„Diese file wurde am … zur Löschung vorgeschlagen, das Ergebnis lautete behalten.“

is gramatically incorrect. It should either be „Dieses File“ or „Diese Datei“. --Leyo 13:37, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ich hab dann mal ein Namensraum-Switch in die Vorlage eingebaut. Mit Diese Datei, denn Dieses File hört sich doch etwas merkwürdig an. --Slomox (talk) 16:41, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Danke! Für mich sind beide Varianten ebenbürtig. --Leyo 17:03, 29 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

2nd options doesn't work edit

On the page File talk:Schéma du ring sud de Nivelles.png the 2nd veriable is defined as the file was renamed after the nomination passed. The link doesn't target the old nomination page and I could fix it, unfortunately. Cycn (talk) 14:01, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

English phrasing edit

{{Editprotected}}

The current English phrasing of "Please consider that decision before you re-nominate it." makes an implicit assumption that the reader wants to re-nominate the for deletion, which probably won't be the case most of the time that this template is read. Instead, perhaps say something like "If you are thinking about re-nominating it for deletion, please read that discussion first." That would then avoid the assumption. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 19:30, 9 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

  Done Awesome! Thank you! Steinsplitter (talk) 11:01, 25 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Translations out of sync edit

The English text that displays at the main template page (Template:Kept) is out of sync with Template:Kept/en (ideally, that should not be possible). This is very obvious if English is your language (or is shown instead of a missing translation) when you go to e.g. File talk:Goldap 1914.jpg and click "English". --Njardarlogar (talk) 15:29, 2 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Edit request Oct 2017 edit

{{Editprotected}} The word kept is better to write bold so it's easier and quicker to read, also do that to {{Deleted}}. Hddty. (talk) 09:11, 29 October 2017 (UTC)Reply

I think the following would be more appropriate:

  — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:55, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Jeff G.: for files, that would result in "This file page was kept". And for categories "This category page was kept". - Alexis Jazz ping plz 09:19, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Alexis Jazz: Those are technically correct, although "file description page" is more accurate.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:17, 2 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  Fixed Lets not make this overly complicated. The problem was user pages and user pages has been fixed with a namespace switch that adds the word "page" whenever the template is used in namespace 3 (user talk). If there are other specific instances where this is currently funky sounding let me know and I can do a full switch parser. --Majora (talk) 02:19, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Check against current date in preview edit

To help avoid typos like this: Special:Diff/353779284: Is it possible to teach Template:Kept to check if the entered date is in the future or too far in the past compared to the current date? And then warn about it in the preview mode? —andrybak (talk) 07:50, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Andrybak: Technically? Sure. That's possible with a parser. Is it really necessary? Probably not. Most admins use the closing script which does it automatically. Those that don't (in this case) don't really make that big of a mistake in my mind as the "read that discussion" link is still valid either way. Not to mention that those that don't preview wouldn't see it until they click save anyways. Also you'd have to determine the exact time interval you'd want to trigger it on. --Majora (talk) 02:07, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Green Giant: Can you do the same to {{Deleted}} and {{Undeleted}}?Jonteemil (talk) 06:17, 6 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Realized I needed to account for all instances when firstly "Image:" is used instead of "File:" is used and secondly when _ is used instead of a space so please add this instead: {{#ifeq: {{#invoke:string|sub|{{#invoke:string|replace|{{#invoke:string|replace|{{{2}}}|Image:|File:}}|_| }}|i=32}} | {{PAGENAME}} | [[Category:Reduntant usage of filename]] }}. I tested in Template:Kept/sandbox and it worked as i should have.Jonteemil (talk) 06:54, 6 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Jonteemil: what about the other places in the template where it says "Image"? Do those need replacing? -Green Giant (talk) 15:21, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Green Giant: .I don't want to replace anything in the template. But prior to 2007-2008 the deletion requests were called "Commons:Deletion requests/Image:EXAMPLE", not File:EXAMPLE. This needs to be accounted for. Sorry for my typo in redundant btw.Jonteemil (talk) 15:32, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ah ok. For some reason I thought you wanted another change to be made! Don’t worry about the spelling - as a native English speaker I should have picked it up. The wrong category will slowly empty - only about 50,000 files! 😁 --Green Giant (talk) 15:38, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I noticed that categorization isn't exactly immediate since I thought I fixed all entries in Category:Missing deletion request yesterday but now it has entries again... :)Jonteemil (talk) 16:25, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Green Giant: Can you fix it now please?Jonteemil (talk) 18:14, 8 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Jonteemil: I’m not sure it worked. Please have a look. --Green Giant (talk) 20:57, 8 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Green Giant: Since it worked in the sandbox, it should work in the main template as well. But since the categorization as mentioned earlier takes time I guess we will see. Thanks!Jonteemil (talk) 21:24, 8 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Green Giant: I didn't anticipate that there would be 50000 entries that would meet te criteria in the #ifeq expression. You may remove all of it since I nor anyone else I think will remove parameter 2 from 50000 entries. Thanks for your help anyway.Jonteemil (talk) 09:09, 10 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

No categories edit

There is such a mess in the categories that in a reasonable time I could not find where to stick Category:Missing deletion request and Category:Reduntant usage of filename that this template sets in some cases.·Carn 14:19, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Carn: Thank you for highlighting this. This was an error by me and @Jonteemil: . I have created both categories as well as Category:Redundant usage of filename. I’ve corrected the template and the misspelt category should gradually become empty as and when the system gets round to it. I’ll delete the misspelt one when it is empty. —-Green Giant (talk) 15:18, 7 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Edit request May 2021 edit

{{Edit request}}

Hello!

Please add the content of template:Kept/sandbox to the template. It makes it unnecessary to write Commons:Deletion requests/, you can just write the subpage. A bit smoother for the lazy one :). I have tested it and it works well. If one writes it manually anyway it is smart enough not to add it twice, rather it doesn't add it then.Jonteemil (talk) 23:41, 22 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It would be Special:Diff/409468073/563095216.Jonteemil (talk) 23:44, 22 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
  Not done The template is usually added automatically when closing a DR, and changing how it works would cause disruption. 1989 (talk) 15:09, 1 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
