2017-01-01 Public Domain Day *(but not in the USA; not until at least 2019-01-01)

Not active here very much anymore.

There is just too much wrong with how the community-process works @WM right now. The rules are a godawful mess, they are poorly (& very unevenly/selectively) administered, & when the WMF does take an interest in something that's happening in the projects or the community, they usually get it wrong. I'm tired of dealing with it all. So until that changes consider me, at most, an "intermittent" contributor only.

Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome...

Tip of the Day: ANATOMY &/or "BIOLOGICAL" FILES NEED TO BE CLASSIFIED BY SPECIES, GENDER, ETC.!

  • year-by-number cats should be included as a subcat of the relevant integer (number) cat
  • people by year cats belong as subcats of fashion by year
  • photographs should be ordered by date taken, to the greatest degree of accuracy possibly with the available information about said photograph (i.e.: yyyy-mm-dd if possible; if not, then closest approximation)
  • biographical material should be sorted by gender, vital status (i.e.: whether the subject is alive, or dead), etc.; usually this should be done at the "person's name" (< people-by-name) category-level.

Hi, I'm Lx.

I write, copyedit, sort things, create inter-wiki links, create/scan/photograph/edit/upload files & also work with other artists; recruiting them to join WikiMedia & placing their work, as merited:

My uploads are mostly art scans/photos, with some other stuff occasionally mixed in.

I like to "collect" old, public domain art by making (best resolution possible) digital copies, & uploading them here or @ WP/EN [1] (i.e.: when the material doesn't meet WMC's dual-jurisdiction; USA + country-of-origin PD rule). Call it my effort at digital conservation? :)

"anytime a wikipedia article does not come up in the top ten results on a google search, (it means that) we haven't done our jobs right" - quotations from me :P

Rule of Thumb (for wikiprojects in general)-- If you are spending more time working on user comments/discussions, than you are in actually doing work on the project itself, then you are probably doing it wrong...

Suggestion -- If you have just spent a great deal of time in "discussions", then go & do some useful work categorizing, or etc.; you'll feel much better & FAR more productive afterwards.

Suggestion -- If you become involved in a "discussion" on-wiki, say your piece, say everything that you have to say about the subject under discussion, & then walk away for AT LEAST 24 hours, before responding to anything. Unless the wiki is on fire, it's not that urgent to get in your next "round".

Don't expect to convince people with your case, but if you space things out, at least you'll spend/waste less time being frustrated by people who don't read/don't understand/don't want to understand it.

THEN go & do some useful work on the project... or go find something else to work on, someplace else; which is what I'm doing right now.

  • Note that I have "de-prioritized" my work on WikiMedia projects. Consider it a protest. I'm not "gone", but I'm not going to break a sweat working on here; WM is just not at the top of my list of things to do, anymore.

Own Work edit

Things I have not uploaded at Wikimedia Commons edit

For things I have uploaded @ WP/EN instead of @ WMC, go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lx_121

If it's there instead of at Commons, usually this was because while the item is free & clear under U.S. law, as PD pre-1923, it's not necessarily PD in its "country of origin" (or this point is unclear/uncertain).

At the present time, most of it is going to be postcard art, mostly handmade original works, & primarily focussed around WWI. When I have enough material, I'll do a separate gallery-page there, for the WWI-related stuff.
