Medical images

Sorry - the images you have uploaded are not in the public domain. All of them include a watermark saying that copyright belongs to Terese Winslow, and also that the US Gvt. retains some rights. I am afraid they have to be deleted as copyright violations, but could be restored if you were able to get the copyright owner to release the images under a suitable free licence. You have linked to a page that states "Except where noted on the image details page, Visuals Online images are in the public domain and may be used, linked, or reproduced without permission". However, the page goes on to say "Some images are copyright protected and thus are not in the public domain. If an image is copyright protected, you will have to contact the rights holder to obtain reuse permission. Contact information for reuse is posted on the details page for each copyrighted image". The latter quote applies here.

Your contributions to Commons are very much appreciated, and I hope you will understand that we have to be quite careful to ensure we do not infringe anyone's copyright. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 20:17, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

The Image of Kaynarca Hoyugu

• This image has NO copyright appertained on it.
• This picture was taken in 1978 and the OWNER of this picture is UNKNOWN.
• There are numerous web sites that use this image FREELY WITHOUT SPECIFYING any copyright information.
• Currently, NO establishment/real person claim copyright about the Image, and till this time NO establishment/real person claimed any copyright information as well.
• One Wiki-admin CANNOT say that an image is UNDER COPYRIGHT just by googling and found it in some web site. If there is the same image in one website, this DOES NOT mean that the image's copyright status is associated with that site. Gercekkaynarca (talk) 00:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

• OK, just for a moment, let us assume that your reasoning is plausible and we decided to put copyright tag to the image. Can you say that which tag we should use and which firm/real person we will specify (because there is a situation in which no firm/real person claim the copyright, and this image is used in the public domain <internet> and various newspapaers since 1978)? Selam Can. Napıyorsun ? File:Sedat Simavi cartoon Oct 1922.JPG, File:Sedat Simavi cartoon Jul 1922.JPG'in benzerini yüklemeyi düşünürken aklıma geldi. Sedat Simavi 1953 yılında vefat etmiştir. Dolayısıyla eğer eser bir şahsa ait (burada ise Sedat Simavi) ise {{PD-old}} değildir, eğer belli bir dernek, firma (yani tüzel kişi, mesela TGC filan)'ya ait ise KM'dir. Geri döndüm buraya. Orada kaynaklara dayanılmayarak yapılan POV pushing davranışlar ve iddialar gereksiz, SASlar, kullanıcılara odaklanmalar, etc... Ayrıca eskisi kadar taraflılık konusunda duyarlı davranılmıyor ve sonuçta maddeler bayağı milleleştirilmişlerdir. Gerç burada da kullanıcılara sürekli saldıranlar var (ama İngilizce vikiye nazaran sayıca çok az) ve buranın kullanıcıları ve hizmetlileri uygun şekilde müdahale edebiliyorlar. Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
