I've nominated the starving polar bear for VI at Commons:Valued image candidates/Endangered arctic - starving polar bear.jpg. Best, cart-Talk 11:09, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

I also added the pic to the en-wiki page en:Polar bear as soon as I saw it. It might interest you that since then, about 10.000 people have seen it. cart-Talk 23:56, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Endangered arctic - starving polar bear

AWeith- This is one of the most moving images I've seen in a long time. I'm sorry I didn't see it on FP noms until it was too late. It is truly an example of how a picture can say a thousand words...--Godot13 (talk) 21:18, 6 November 2016 (UTC) Dear Godot13, a very sincere "thank you" for your comment. Indeed this topic is very much to my heart and I appreciate meeting people like you who share my feelings about how moving the fate of such an animal really is. I wish I could have had your opinion and that of some others who contacted me since my withdrawal beforehand to base may decision on somewhat more solid foundations. However, the photo is on its way to become a VI and that may be a good way to remind people of the threat that we are - innocently or deliberately - putting on the delicate nature not only of the arctic. I guess we have made our point and I will enjoy having met people sharing my views. Thank you so much again. --AWeith (talk) 23:19, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Hello AWeith! I stumbled upon your photograph and its FP candidature upon a recommendation of a fellow Commoner. On said page, you said something about offering access to a PDF copy of the Science article about the CO2 footprint of air travel. I am really interested about this, how shall we proceed further? I'd suggest Wikimail as tool of the trade, if it's OK for you. Kind regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 23:39, 7 November 2016 (UTC).

  Valued Image

I just got the notice on my talk page that the poor bear is now a VI. I also saw that it has been closed as 'Promoted* on QIC. So it seems it will get all the recognition it deserves. :) Besides all the bickering going on here from time to time, it seems like the heart of the community is in the right place. cart-Talk 18:53, 8 November 2016 (UTC).

Thanks for all, cart! But the bear is not QI; can't be as it was not nominated. Anyway; I'm glad she is awarded at last!--AWeith (talk) 22:59, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry to contradict you but the bear is still under discussion on the QIC page under Consensual Review, please see: Commons:Quality images candidates/candidate list#File:Endangered_arctic_-_starving_polar_bear.jpg. You nominated it for QI at 00:12 on 3 November 2016. When I wrote the text above, the nomination had been closed as 'Promoted' by Jkadavoor and that should have been the end of it. But after that Lmbuga re-opened the closed discussion and voted against it, so now it is at a tie again. Guess we haven't seen the last of that yet. cart-Talk 23:20, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
You are of course right; there's many a slip twicks cup and lip ... It totally slipped my memory. So lets wait then. AWeith (talk) 23:30, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign for User:The Photographer

Please excuse me spamming you. As a regular on Feature Picture Candidatess you will recognise User:The Photographer, who has 86 Featured Pictures. His contributions cover the architecture and culture of Brazil and Venezuela. He has basic photographic equipment: an old D300 camera and 35mm lens, and lives in a poor country where photographic equipment is expensive. The Photographer has recently taken several images using the technique where multiple frames are stitched together to create a high-resolution panorama. However, many times frustrated with the stitching errors that result from trying to take such photos without a proper panoramic head for his tripod. This special equipment permits the camera to be rotated around the entrance pupil of the lens, and eliminates such errors. Having a panoramic head would greatly increase the potential for The Photographer to create sharp high-resolution images for Commons. In addition, the purchase of a fisheye lens would enable 180 × 360° panoramas to be taken, which are a great way to explore a scene as though one is really there.

Please see the discussion about the Crowd-funding campaign on User talk:The Photographer#Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign and visit the Generosity Crowd-funding Campaign page to consider donating. Even a modest donation will make a difference if many people contribute. Thanks. -- Colin (talk) 13:37, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Comments I would promote this photo, including the deliberately unreal-looking and posterized blue and white mountains, but first, you need to fix the dust spots. There are a bunch throughout the photo. -- Ikan Kekek 11:01, 16 December 2016 (UTC)   Done Got me again, Sir! You know the surface of my sensor much more intimately than I do ; -). Anyway. always a pleasure to interact with you. Thanks. BTW: the light on hazy days is extremely strange up there. I tried to tint the mountains to a lesser blue but it does not work. It has indeed been that way as far as I remember.--AWeith 13:55, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

Some holiday joy

Since 1959, it is a Swedish tradition to (at 3 pm) watch Donald Duck and other Disney cartoons on TV. The most appreciated part is about Donald as bird photographer in Clown of the Jungle. I think most users at FPC can relate to the frustrated Donald (especially the parrot scene), which is why I'm sharing it with you. Happy Holiday!   --cart-Talk 15:22, 24 December 2016 (UTC)

Comment - Very exciting photo. If this isn't your best photo of the eagles fighting, nominate your best for FP, but if it is, in spite of the inevitable overlapping of the fighting pair with other eagles in the background, you could consider nominating this. -- Ikan Kekek 04:44, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

White tailed eagles

Great photo!

I have a question. The ISO was high, 1250, how did you get rid of the noise? the NR slider in Lightroom? If so, how far did you have to slide it? PumpkinSky talk 19:30, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi PumpkinSky! I am glad you like the image. Indeed I guess there were several factors contributing to low noise. Firstly, my new camera (Canon 5D Mark IV) produces extremely low noise up to ISO 3200. Secondly, I was lucky to experience a sunny morning, which certainly produces less noise than an overcast scenery. Thirdly, I used the NR sliders of LR6 indeed. I set the denoise filter to 25 and the color noise reducer to 25, too. Hope that helps. I may gladly answer any more questions. Cheers, AWeith (talk) 23:15, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Ah, thank you! I just wanted to learn more about cleaning up noise. PumpkinSky talk 23:17, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
You are welcome! Please make sure when using the denoise filter in LR that you preserve enough of detail; i.e. put the details slider to a value of at least 50. That indeed is my standard setting. Cheers, AWeith (talk) 23:20, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

The eagle's head seems a bit overexposed. Could you try to get that a bit better and maybe a bit more contrast on the right part of its body? --Basotxerri 17:17, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Earth 2019

Hallo AWeith,

vom 1. bis 31. Mai 2019 kannst Du wieder beim Fotowettbewerb Wiki Loves Earth Deutschland (WLE 2019) teilnehmen.
