Errors when assigning categories edit

Good morning (here).

I appreciate the lot of work you are putting into Wikipedia commons. However, now and then you are assigning wrong categories to (aircraft) files.

In this example you put in "2021 at San Francisco International Airport", although the file title clearly states "... San Francisco 19-08-2004.jpg".

I urgently ask you to please be more careful in all edits, especially those concerning my main subject aviation. Thank you. --Uli Elch (talk) 08:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good Morning, thank you for letting me know. Afifa Afrin (talk) 09:58, 25 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

== Category:Biman at Toronto Pearson Airport[edit] ==
Hello everyone, I like to sugges this "Category:Boeing 787-9 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Toronto Pearson International Airport" to be changed to "Category:Biman at Toronto Pearson Airport". My own suggestion would be a topical "Category:Biman at Toronto Pearson Airport" for the Bangladesh airlines any kind of aircraft itself come to Toronto and a sub Category below as it is "Category:Boeing 787-9 of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
We should have a topical parent category as : Category:Biman at Toronto Pearson Airport 216.223.144.20 04:14, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
We already have Category:Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft at Toronto Pearson International Airport, and this is the complete and correct airline name for the parent category, not just "Biman". --Uli Elch (talk) 10:30, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

No-Go edit

It is not up to you to remove hidden author's categories, especially not without any notification. Regards --Uli Elch (talk) 14:22, 2 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Dear Uli Elch, I am extremely sorry for that. I dont know, how that happened. Please forgive me. Afifa Afrin (talk) 16:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of files with bad file names edit

Good morning.
1) Why do you remove files from the Category:Images of aircraft with bad file names, which according to the definitions without any doubt do have bad names? Example: G-VYGM, which was named "Riik@mctr - 28988291977.jpg" before?

2) Why do you remove files from the Category:Images uploaded by Rodrigolopes (check needed)? Example: [1], which was named "-i---i- (48440978642).jpg" before, like all the hundreds others with the absolutely meaningless file name file name "-i---i- ..."

These deletions make it impossible to systematically look for all those nonsens file names and to move them by giving them a decent, correct name. Please be so kind and

a) never do that again and
b) re-instate these deletions or, even better, move them directly to correct names. Most of them appear to have been deleted around 12 February 2022. --Uli Elch (talk) 10:31, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I normally remove these CAT (Images of aircraft with bad file names, Images uploaded by Rodrigolopes (check needed)) after renaming the files. May be one or two was sliped by mistake. I always try to rename the file without leaving a redirect. Thank you so much for finding the issue and resolve it. Afifa Afrin (talk) 23:39, 27 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Question from the CPUG Board edit

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022

We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.

Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023 edit

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.

All the best to you, your family, and friends! --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 21:01, 2 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

De Havilland Canada edit

Please note that "De Havilland Canada" is an entirely different company than De Havilland (UK), the same mistake occured here. --Uli Elch (talk) 16:49, 14 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wrong date edit

This picture had been taken in 1983, not in 2011 (see file name).

I have corrected it. Please be careful and do not mix up the different dates, Thank you. --Uli Elch (talk) 11:35, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wrong variant edit

Here again you have inserted a wrong information.

I urge you to be more careful when editing and make sure you are not putting in wrong informations. --Uli Elch (talk) 16:00, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I must have made mistake from the file cat. Thank you for correcting that. Afifa Afrin (talk) 17:20, 19 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Once again edit

Once again: Please be more careful with your edits.

This aircraft is a 727-200, not a -100.

If you do not know it or are not sure: Do NOT edit, refrain from inserting wrong data !! --Uli Elch (talk) 16:34, 12 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Final warning concerning your sloppy edits edit

And again and again ... There is nothing like a "HS-JTI" which you inserted in this file. Instead and clearly visible it is "HS-UTI".

You did not eben bother to answer two of my three last notices.

If you continue with such sloppy and wrong edits in the aviation sector you may have to face a vandalism report due to disruptive editing. --Uli Elch (talk) 12:02, 19 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 - Deutschland edit

Hallo Afifa Afrin,

Sieger 2022 – Kloster Paulinzella

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you edit

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.
