Hello Mayaak1803. The reason why I tagged File:Tuer der Kaaba Munir El Jundi.jpg.png is that it needs a license, but please note that the copyright holder of a photo is its photographer, not the person depicted in it. Hence, the photo cannot be hosted on Commons unless the photographer/copyright holder releases it under a free license. Ahmad^talk 21:28, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

You left a message on one of my pages, stating that one of the images I used may lead to copyright issues. I just wanted to stop the concern, that this is untrue Its clearly public domain on the promise to link the author, which is GOOGLE STREET VIEW! WTF? Google Street View clearly states that without attribution they will consult all this copyright b******t. I clearly said, google street view like 8 times, in the description. @TableSalt342: Hello. Based on [1], I don't think using content from Google Street View is permitted on Commons. The guideline clearly states that "For commercial uses where our mapping products are used for revenue-generating purposes, such as integrating Google Maps or Street View into a mobile or web app, use Google Maps Platform instead". In other words, Google does not allow using content from Google Street View for commercial purposes. That alone is problematic, because Commons does not accept "no commercial" licenses (please see COM:L). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Ahmad^talk 03:55, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

All of the audio files I have, and will be, uploading are made using open source, copyright-free software which generates AI audio files of Greenlandic terms. I do not know who the photographer who took the picture was. The photo was taken on January 14, 1936, in Warsaw, Poland, as stated on this page, in connection with another photo from the same event: (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:%D7%94%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%99%22%D7%A6_%D7%91%D7%91%D7%A8_%D7%9E%D7%A6%D7%95%D7%94.jpg).

The other image that is already published today on Wikimedia and Wikipedia, appears many times along with the image I uploaded. The 2 photos are from the same event.

If I had more knowledge of how to operate in Wikimedia, I'm sure I would have been able to upload the image freely just like the other image.

I know this picture was published in the press in 1936. I have now embarked on a search campaign on library sites, to find press clippings from 1936 and locate the relevant picture. The picture also appeared in a booklet called "Speech Collections" which was then published by the fans of the rabbi in the picture. This is what was written on one of the websites. I'm trying to find this book in the library soon.

Based on what you said, I think the photo is in the public domain in Poland. However, it's most likely not in the public domain in the United States (Wikimedia Commons can only host photos that are free, both in their source country and the United States), because it doesn't meet requirements for either {{PD-US-expired}} or {{PD-1996}}. In almost 10 years, it will be in the public domain in the US and can therefore be hosted on Wikimedia Commons. There are some other US public domain licenses, such as {{PD-US-1978-89}}, available here, which might prove to be useful. Please let me know if you think the photo is in the public domain in the US. File "El Cid y Jimena"

Hi Ahmad, Thank you for your message about a phtograph I uploaded.

I have received a response from the museum at which the painting is, and they tell me the copyright still belongs to the family. They gave me a telephone number but I have not been able to contact them yet. I am afraid the image should be deleted for the time being.

If that's the case, I can undelete it, but first I have to ask a question: Are you the photographer of this photo? (And if the uploaded photo is a photo of another photo, are you the photographer of both photos?) I believe so. The style of clothes worn in the photo is one example and then there's his youthful appearance, taking into account the fact that he was born in 1918. @Salomon83: Hi. Unfortunately, I think they are still copyrighted. The author of both works is Lucien Porcheron, and if I'm not mistaken, he died in 1957. According to copyright rules of France, I believe that both works are still copyrighted, and will be in the public domain on January 1, 2028. We can still add them to Category:Undelete in 2028 so that administrators will undelete them once they are no longer copyrighted. If I have missed anything, please let me know. Thank you. @Behnam N: سلام مجدد. ممنون. حدس می‌زنم منظورتان File:IRIBOmid.svg است. در این صورت، صحبت ایشان صحیح است. درست است که شما نسخه اس‌وی‌جی را طراحی کرده‌اید، اما اصل ایده متعلق به طراح اصلی لوگو است. آن نکته‌ای که شما به آن اشاره کرده‌اید، تریدمارک/نماد بازرگانی است. آن هم البته مهم است، اما صحبت در این‌جا در خصوص کپی‌رایت/حق نشر است. این لوگو چه نماد ثبت‌شده‌ای باشد و چه نه، باز هم حق نشر آن برای سازنده‌اش محفوظ است (یا شاید برای مدیریت شبکه، اگر به واسطه قرارداد منتقل شده باشد). دقت کنید که حق نشر مرتبط با کل ایده اثر است. علاوه بر این، قانون حق نشر ایران آستانه اصالت را بسیار پایین می‌گیرد و تقریباً هیچ طرحی را، هر چقدر هم که ساده باشد، فاقد اصالت لازم نمی‌داند. در نتیجه، حتی اگر لوگو را بازسازی هم کنید، باز حق نشرش برای سازنده اصلی محفوظ است. راهی که من پیشنهاد می‌کنم این است که لوگو را ببرید به ویکی‌پدیای فارسی و آن‌جا به‌طور محلی تحت استفاده منصفانه بارگذاری کنید. با این اقدام، حذف نخواهد شد و خواهید توانست در مقاله مربوط به آن هم از آن استفاده کنید. I deleted that file because it didn't have a license (all media files uploaded on Commons are required to have at least one free license), but the photo was not free anyway. Generally, photos you find on the internet are not free. (there are exceptions, but content on most news websites, including the Guardian, is copyrighted.) Help needed

Salam Ahmad252, I need your help. As you probably noticed, for many months I'm fixing Iranian architectural history here on Commons and on Wikidata, and sometimes I'm also merging duplicates on Persian Wikipedia (mostly made by bots). Today, one user (Luckie Luke) reverted my edits and restored three duplicates (first, second, third). I do understand histories sometimes need to be merged, but for bot-made articles I don't consider it to be of such importance. I asked Luckie Luke to merge it, but he don't understand English (I wrote it on English because it's much faster, I do have basic knowledge of Persian). Furthermore, he sent me some warning about sock puppetry which is bizarre, I used only this account for 12 years. I really don't understand him. Anyway, can you please merge above-mentioned three articles? Otherwise Wikidata bots will start to make duplicates there and again we'll have a mess. --Orijentolog (talk) 19:30, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

@Orijentolog: Salam. I'm not an expert, but from what I can remember, there are many such duplicates on Persian Wikipedia (I think User:Hanooz is more familiar with these). As for these three, I think the other articles, the ones you redirected them to, should be merged into them (for example, w:fa:کاروانسرای فخر داوود should be merged into w:fa:رباط فخرداود; not the other way around), because those pages seem to have the official title chosen by Iran's Ministry of Roads and Urban Development (As a rule of thumb, the articles created by Rezabot usually have the official title, most likely because the bot created these by using the official database). I will merge them in a couple hours (I might make a mistake if I do it right now, because I'm a bit tired). Ahmad^talk 12:54, 8 May 2021 (UTC)

OK, thanks a lot, take your time. Of course I'm not familiar with the local rules regarding merging on Persian Wikipedia (could be official, more popular, larger or older), but the important thing is to recognize and mark duplicates. Admins or more experienced users will understand is it A-to-B or B-to-A, and merge them after my marking. Speaking of official registered names, keep in mind that sometimes they are ambiguous & unencyclopedic (example: Karevansaray-ye sangi (qaleh-ye sangi)) or outdated (example: Mabad-e Khorheh), not to mention other wrong data like outdated shahrestans which split into new ones, historical periods which have meanwhile been refuted in the professional literature, and so on. Another big problem with Persian Wikipedia are wrong coordinates, they are incorrect in more than half of the cases I have encountered.

That's the reason why I'm concerned about duplicates on Persian Wiki, sometimes bots will make duplicates on Wikidata, with automatic importing all above-mentioned wrong info. And if they're merged too late, we'll have a mix of correct and wrong info on both Wikidata and Commons infoboxes. It's frustrating for me because in some cases I was spending hours to find proper coords, scholarly articles about architectural dating, correct administrative units, and so on. Yes, unfortunately, creating thousands of bot-made articles on Persian Wikipedia has at times resulted in duplicates, inaccurate articles, etc. The official database was, I think, created almost ten years ago, and it has not been updated since then. And then there is also the problem with unsourced material in some of these articles, as you mentioned.

But I might have an idea that can help us deal with these duplicates. Since it's a relatively big change, I left a notice on Persian Wikipedia's technical village pump. I will hopefully have a list of duplicates in two or three days, unless someone opposes the proposed change (unlikely, I think). I don't think I can personally work on merging these in near future, but at least there will be a backlog ready for anyone interested.

About the deletion of Logo Africa Re.jpg

After reading your message, I wanted today to add further notice concerning the file being a logo but I just realized that the file has been deleted yesterday ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Logo_Africa_Re.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1 ).

As most companies have their logos on Wikipdia and as Commons authorizes the use of logo for company as Africa Re (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Logos) I would like to create a "request undeletion" for this logo file.

@Nicolas Bek: Hello. You can request undeletion here, but it may get rejected because the logo is likely to be above COM:TOO Nigeria. However, you do not necessarily need to request undeletion. If you want to use it under fair use, you should upload the logo on Wikipedia, not on Commons (fair use is not allowed on Commons, but it is allowed on English Wikipedia). On English Wikipedia, you can do so by going to w:en:Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard and using the "Upload a non-free file" option on the said page. Ahmad^talk 01:09, 19 July 2021 (UTC)

Received a message from you on my talk page. I would like to follow up with that.

Thanks for flagging up the issues of copyright with the images that I uploaded. I sourced them from an open, public Telegram group where the images of Hong Kong protest art were shared. The images are not created by me. When I submitted the images, I've uploaded the link of the Telegram group as the source that I found it. However, in fact it is not very clear on the Telegram group what copyright license there is with the images.

With that in mind, what is your suggestion if I have to resubmit the images and seek copyright permission to upload that?

@BubblesOscar: Hi. I'm afraid we may need to delete them if their copyright status remains unclear. Wikimedia Commons only accepts images that are released under a free license, and, per the precautionary principle, images with unclear copyright status are also subject to deletion. That said, it is still possible to "rescue" these files: if there is a way to contact the copyright holder(s)/designer(s) of these images, you can contact them and ask them to release their art under a free license, such as a CC-BY or CC-BY-SA license. Regarding the message I sent you, adding a license tag will solve the issue, as you did on File:Dion-cools.jpg. However, please note that all files hosted on Wikimedia Commons should have been published under a free license by their creator/copyright holder. Unfortunately, most of the files on the Internet are not published under a free license; this includes most of album, book, video game, movie etc. covers.

I also have a question regarding File:Dion-cools.jpg: when I try to open the source of the image, I hit a 404 error. Could you please check that and let me know if you can open it? Thank you. Ahmad^talk 17:35, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

@Azhan Zikri: VRTS agents will most likely respond shortly after receiving an email from the copyright holder, and will also add a tag to the file page, letting administrators know that the file should not be deleted. And even if the file is deleted for whatever reason, VRTS agents will take care of the undeletion process when they receive a valid release statement. I have edited the info about these two files (in Bulgarian), and now I wonder: do I also have to delete your tags indicating licensing shortcomings after my edits, or is this your role to hopefully delete these after reviewing my files' info? I don't know what I should (not) do, and I am afraid that in 7 days the files will be automatically deleted, which is quite undesirable for our team of contributors. Thank you for licensing your files. I removed the tags, but you can always do it yourself after adding a license (you can, of course, ask other editors personally or on the copyright village pump or the help desk if you need any assistance, but this is not necessary). I should probably also note that, even if the tag isn't removed within 7 days, the file will not be automatically deleted; an administrator will need to manually check if the tag is (still) valid before deciding to delete/keep it, so if the file already has a license, the administrator will just remove the tag instead of deleting the file (unless there is some other issue with the file). Ahmad - thanks for the information on copyright for the Gravitas logo. I did a screen shot. I used criteria from WP:MOS to place the logo on in the infobox of the article. "Note that non-free logos should only be used in the infoboxes of the primary article(s) to which they are affiliated; i.e. a company logo may be used in the article about that company, but not in a separate article about one of the company's products." @Cleveland Todd: WP:MOSTM refers to fair use on English Wikipedia, which is not allowed on Commons. For non-free logos, you'll need to upload them locally on English Wikipedia under fair use (please see w:en:WP:FAIR for more information). In this case, however, the logo may be below the threshold of originality (too simple to be protected by copyright) and, therefore, allowed on Commons. I will start a deletion request (DR) for it. Problems with the License Agreement (Marshal 10000)

Hello Ahmad, you recently deleted most of my downloaded files due to a license violation. However, the source and author of my uploaded photos are indicated correctly, yes, sometimes the sources from which I took the photo did not indicate the author, so I indicated the site where this file was placed as the author. The CC-BY-SA 4.0 license agreement allows free copying and distribution, and even in commercial purposes (Although Wikipedia is not a commercial site), on the basis of this, I downloaded the files. Although I thought that the file that is on the site with open access, a priori is available to everyone. What exactly infringed Copyright? @Marshal 10000: Hello. I think there might be a misunderstanding. Most of the files on the internet are not released under a free license, even if they are available on a website for everyone to see. For an image (or any other media file) to be licensed under a CC-BY-SA 4.0 (or any other) license, there should be an explicit statement from the copyright holder indicating its release under that license (for example, Fars News explicitly states that "Fars News Agency is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License"). Please see COM:L for more information.

@Ahmad^talk Good afternoon, there really was probably a misunderstanding. I'm wrong that I indicated incorrect license data, but there is a licensing guide CS 10001 [4]. It's about the Montpellier Airport License Agreement [5]. Copyright holder SA Aéroport Montpellier Méditerranée ©. It is very important for me to keep the photos that have been removed from the Montpellier-Mediterranean (airport) article, I am trying to make the article 'Good quality', but deleting the files does not allow me to do this. @Marshal 10000: I read the notice on the Airport's website and also had a look at the licensing guide (though I could not read it all as it was quite long; if there is a specific (range of) page(s), please let me know), but I couldn't find a license suitable with the criteria mentioned here.

On a separate note, about promoting the article to the "Good Article" (GA) status, according to my experience on Wikipedia, an article can be promoted to the said status without the use of too many images if free images of the subject are not available (see w:en:WP:GACR: "Illustrated, if possible, by media"). And, regardless, copyright policies take precedence, and one of the GA criteria is also containing no copyright violation. If images on the internet are not free, I'm afraid we cannot allow them on Commons. Still, however, emailing airport management might help, as they can release at least some of their content under a free license (see COM:VRTS). Ahmad^talk 22:05, 15 November 2021 (UTC)

@Ahmad^talk Hello, there is no such section about the image in the introduction to the licensing manual, there are not big statements about the use of files for non-commercial purposes. All the same, for increasing in GA, I wanted at least a few images to be present in the article. The images are, in principle, on the creative commons website (images on this site are allowed for distribution, under certain conditions), however, there are very few of them on this site about Montpellier airport, they are not of high quality, and do not have any significance. They can use COM:RELGEN, which will help them produce a release statement and then send it to VRTS. VRTS agents will either tag the file(s) as free or, if there is an error in the release statement, ask the copyright holder to take necessary steps to fix said error(s). How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.
