Sorry about that

Those are good interesting images, but not particularly easy to work on. Durova (talk) 03:13, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Welty image

I replied to you on my talk page, maybe not as helpfully as either of us would wish. Another point I forgot to mention is something those of us who work regularly with LOC online images have noticed: Sometimes some of their images are inexplicably temporarily unavailible or don't show up on searches; but might pop back up a week or a month later. *shrug* Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 13:14, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I saw this, and was wondering, how do you upload videos? Can it be done with wmv files? I don't come to Commons that often, so can you reply here? Thanks! Nightscream (talk) 15:08, 20 June 2009 (UTC)

Yet another Commons newbie asking for help

On Wikimedia, the reward for a job well done are another three jobs. So. File:Free Software Portal Logo.svg is widely used as a small icon. For example, it's on articles on free software projects on en.wikipedia. A friend of mine found it to be an eyesore and created File:Free Software Portal Logo-2.svg, which honestly looks better.

I've no particular interest in changing links in thousands of articles to point to the new version. How could I replace older file with the newer one, while respecting copyrights and any applicable copyrights? If you are unable or unwilling to ponder this, who else should I bug?

Both versions are marked with the Free Art License and the Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 3.0 License. The newer one also bears a template that identifies it as a retouched version of the older one. The editor behind the first version has not responded to being asked about this twice. The second time, I asked him to if he had any objections. Thanks, --Kizor (talk) 13:42, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

First, save the new logo to your computer. Then go to the old logo image page. At the bottom of the old logo image page you'll see a link that says Upload a new version of this file. Click that link. Once it loads, at the Source filename field, browse for the new logo on your computer. In the File changes field box, not what you did like "cleaned up image", then be sure to note who the author of the new logo is and finally, place a [[link]] to the new logo's current page so that it'll be preserved in the history at least for admins to be able to go back and see once it's deleted. Then click the Upload file button. The new logo will replace the old logo on every page the old logo is currently in use. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 14:50, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Oops, overlooked one image!

Allstarecho, thanks for your updates. I did forget to add the same information at this link, on the image for Mid facelift (rhytidectomy) upper incision.png. If you could also check this one, that would be GREAT! Thanks again for all your time/help. Paravis (talk) 19:14, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

Your deletion request (SeniorGayCouple50Years.gif)

You requested the deletion of File:SeniorGayCouple50Years.gif on Yanns talk page in this edit. The log states copyright violation as reason for deletion.

What was this violation about? Is it possible to bring this picture back on commons with a proper license? Whose credit is it? I'm very interested in this nice substantiation of gay marriage [as a straight]   -- Gohnarch░░░░ 20:54, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

It was a copyright violation on Commons without the author's permission. If you'd like to contact the author at Flickr and ask the author to make the images available, feel free to do so here but please note he does have some "Not safe for work" images there. Here are some of the related images: The one that was on Commons, another - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 21:15, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
It seems we won't see this files on Commons again. However, great thanks for the links   -- Gohnarch░░░░ 16:44, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Wrong deletion, no follow up

I agree that we should keep Wikipedia free of copyright violations, but you deleted the picture I uploaded, though it was not violating copyright. You provided a link to a page that did not even have the same picture on it, only a video about a photo shoot taken that day. Are photos taken at photo shoots? Yes. Does that mean they are copyright? No, because the photographer can release them under a Creative Commons license. It seems like you don't understand copyright rules. So that's annoying for my picture to be deleted, and the picture that reverted for bikini still has a copyright. Twocs (talk) 10:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

I didn't delete the image. An administrator deleted it. I only tagged it as a copyright violation. Let me explain this to you again. The image you uploaded was published in copyrighted material, a calendar and a DVD, by BetUS.com. It can't be used here regardless of what someone on Flickr uploads the image and sets the copyright as. We don't even know if that person on Flickr actually took the photo. As to the image reverted to in the bikini article, it was originally uploaded to Flickr with a free-to-use license but has since been changed. Because it was originally a free-to-use license, and because such free-ness can not by law be revoked later, the image remains free-to-use. - ALLSTRecho wuz here @ 17:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Commons:Deletion requests/Files from Bob Bobster on Flickr

Hi Allstarecho! Bob Bobster (bobster855) on Flickr is known to upload files created by others, marking them with licenses that he has no legal right to release them under, and failing to credit the actual authors. The account is therefore listed as an unreliable source at Commons:Questionable Flickr images.

I have initiated a review of all files taken from this Flickr user that I could find. Since you uploaded one or more of those files to Commons, you may wish to comment at Commons:Deletion requests/Files from Bob Bobster on Flickr. It is possible that some of the files should be kept, but even most of the ones that may be okay to keep need to have their authorship, licensing and other information corrected. File:Ray Rogers Pearl quarterback.jpg

Hi. It looks to me like you made a mistake in the description of File:Ray Rogers Pearl quarterback.jpg. I was getting ready to categorize it as being from 1921 in Mississippi, but I've never seen a football helmet like that from such an early era, so I did a quick google-- per [1], the team didn't even exist until 1948. So I removed the date -- if you have better info, please provide it. By the way, is he the same Ray Rogers as this politician? Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 06:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

You are correct and I did notice that later on but never went back and changed it as it slipped my mind and my time for Wiki related web sites became very limited. The year for the scan should be the same year as the team's founding, which would be 1948. And yes, he is the same person as the politician. Also last year the football stadium at Pearl High School was renovated and named in his honor to Ray Rogers Stadium. - ALLSTRecho wuz here 07:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. photo question from GillenEdits

Hello Allstarecho,

I am a photo editor/researcher named Paula Gillen. I have been hired by Oxmoor House books to locate images for a cookbook, titled the Official Tailgating Cookbook. The book has images of the 14 SEC colleges/universities with recipes and info on each college the football history, and the a spread about the town where the schools are located. I am interested in finding out if you would be willing to send us a high resolution digital file of your 1947 University of Mississippi football guide. We would like to include it in this cookbook as art to go along with the recipes for each school. We need scan of the original at 300 ppi at 6 inches tall, a jpg is fine. Please let me know if there is a charge to use this image or to help compensate you for your time to make this scan.

I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much for your help, Paula Gillen
