Hi. I was contacted regarding Image:Craigievar Castle.jpg, which you'd uploaded - you appear to have accidentally linked to the wrong source image on geograph.org.uk! I've fixed it.

Looking at your contributions, I notice that some of the edit summaries are repeated for different uploads - could you check that they're all pointing to the correct authors and source, as this is a condition of a by-attribution license? Thanks... Shimgray 14:42, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

no but maps of them are copyrighted so unless you are working from the raw data or a PD map(I can offer you a PD map of part of stirling but not the whole thing) your work will be a derivative of a copyright protected work. yes but not that simple. The geographical facts are the angles and distances between various points on the map (ok it is more complex now airial photography plays a significant role) the map is a creative interpritation of these. If you were able to obtain the raw data table you would be free to create a map from those. Otherwise pre 1956 OS maps are PD in the UK which would give you a map you could copy for the lakes rivers and major roads although cities and the like tend to be more problimatical.Geni 01:00, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Your account will be renamed

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Asta. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Asta~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
