No, there is an Azerbaijani map of Azerbaijan and an Armenian map of Nagorno-Karabakh. And anyway, we already have a map of Nagorno Karabakh with Azerbaijani borders and names - the map of Azerbaijan. See my map at Image:Azerbaijan districts azeri.png. (Though, there's no problem with a map of Azerbaijan in Armenian...) If you're going to have a map of N-K with N-K borders, then there's no reason not to use N-K names as well. I could make a map of N-K with Azeri names, but I don't know them - I don't know what the Azeri name for Martakert is, or for Hadrut, etc. Do you know? --Golbez 08:07, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Of course I know what the names of the CITIES are. What matters is the provinces that are not contiguous with any Azeri rayon, "Martakert", "Hadrut" and "Martuni". Really, if I'm going to have a map of N-K using N-K de facto borders, there's no reason not to use N-K de facto names. I mention what the Azeri rayons around are, and if you want to know what they're contiguous with there's the full Azerbaijan map. But this is written from an N-K pov, which oddly is the most neutral POV since it is de facto independent. Sorry if I'm rambling, I'm really tired. --Golbez 05:10, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

And for that matter, what's Azeri for "Stepanakert"? Not the Azeri *name* - the Azeri *translation*. It would be like how Japan is the English name for the country, the English transliteration of the name would be Nihon. Stepanakert is the name of a Baku Armenian communist figure and you cant change a name for all I know, so I think it would remain the same. But why translate names, it doesnt make sense? The official names are those of Azerbaijani those are also accepted by all other countries. But now this map is representing Azerbaijan territory in Armenian names and there isnt even a official version of the map (which is in Azeri) and why is NK in a green colour if I can remember it wasnt like that before? To use the "recognized" Azeri names (ps, so far as I know, the United States recognizes no internal divisions among countries, so I don't know about *all*) would require I also use the Azeri borders - and then, there's no point to this map, it would simply be a zoom-in of the normal Azerbaijan map. Unless you have an Azeri name for Martakert, Hadrut and Martuni - these are the three provinces of N-K that don't match any Azeri rayon. Do you see what I mean?

Also, I put N-K in green to set it apart from Azerbaijan - it IS de facto independent, and this should be reflected in the map. Also, the fact that it is an autonomous oblast in the Soviet Union, so it has a different political history as well. Note that I only have the external borders of N-K on the big map, not the internal ones.

Well Nakhichevan is a autonomous state of Azerbaijan so it should be coloured aswell, and if your gonna set NK apart then you should also give the entire occupied areas a colour, shouldnt that be mentioned aswell. Azeri 13:38, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Azeri

Nakhichevan is an autonomous republic, but since it is physically separate, I think it would complicate the map to add another color - the separation seems sufficient. I will consider this the next time I work on the maps, though. (It takes me 2-3 hours to make a change to the map, considering how many different maps I have to generate, so you can understand why I don't want to do it very often).

NK is set apart because it is not an autonomous portion of Azerbaijan; it is de facto independent of Azerbaijan. Setting it apart seemed the most logical, NPOV conclusion; to not to would be pandering to Azeri POV, to remove it from the map altogether (and thus saying it's a different country) would be pandering to Karabakh POV. Including it, but coloring it differently, shows that it is claimed by both areas. See the maps on India and China to see how this has been done in the past. And since the coloring is being used in this respect, that's another reason why I think coloring Nakhichevan differently would be confusing.

The other territories are de facto occupied by Armenia; there is a difference. Lachin, etc. have not declared independence; they are simply occupied by Armenian troops as a pathway to Nagorno-Karabakh. Therefore, they are not independent, nor part of Armenia (they are occupied; last I heard, they had not been annexed). Just as Iraq is not part of the United States.

And actually, I HAD considered coloring the occupied territories differently, but I did not have a solid source as to their extent, and I felt it could also complicate the map even further. Perhaps a separate, zoomed-in map showing the extent of Armenian incursion. --Golbez 16:38, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
