Gallery edit
A number of your gallery photo links are broken... +sj + 22:22, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- I had a bunch that Commonist didn't digest for some reason. I think they are fixed.--BradPatrick 14:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Brad, if that is in fact your real name... edit
Hi Brad,
I was looking through the Wikimania photos at your gallery. Nice stuff. However the author is listed as Gus Freedman, and the images are tagged as {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}}. This is somewhat of a contradiction unless Gus Freedman is in fact an alias for Brad Patrick (or vice versa), and if this is the case I suggest you start linking the words "Gus Freedman" to your userpage. If it is in fact a mistake and the images should be tagged plain old {{Cc-by-sa-2.5}}, we can probably get a bot to fix this pretty easily. Hope to hear from you. cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 11:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for noticing! I really am w:User:BradPatrick. I'm the General Counsel and interim Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation, the organization that runs this website. The photographs taken by Gus Freedman, a professional photographer (and really nice guy!) were commissioned works by WMF at Wikimania. Gus really took the pictures. WMF really owns them. We really paid him for them. The attribution is credit to Gus; the future use of the images must be tagged to WMF.
Thanks for being suspicious. Sorry you weren't at Wikimania.--BradPatrick 14:11, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. Unfortunately Boston is a bit far for me to travel. Perhaps the next one will be closer ;). cheers, pfctdayelise (translate?) 05:38, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
New York Public Library usage fees for public domain material edit
Please respond at Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Chisinau jew.jpg. The consensus seems to be to keep Bridgeman public domain material that may have been downloaded from the New York Public Library in violation of their terms of use. The debate is still running and a couple of people suggested referring the issue to the Foundation. --InfantGorilla 12:15, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for weighing in. --InfantGorilla 16:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Picture of the Year voting round 1 open edit
Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

I don't know how a Wikipedia Zero bot or vandal on a virgin IP decided my user page should be deleted, but I removed it.--BradPatrick (talk) 21:03, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
