File:Dryna_Midsund.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

May I ask why it has been deleted? Please explain me some details... CartoonistHenning (talk) 18:08, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Compare http://earth.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=21422 and http://earth.google.com/intl/en-US/license.html with Commons:Licensing. LX (talk, contribs) 18:52, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hm. "You can use Google Earth imagery for personal use, but cannot sell it to others." I don't think Wikipedia is for commercial use, but on the other hand they say "you cannot copy, translate, modify, or make derivative works of the Content or any part thereof". Should I display the Google logo then? CartoonistHenning (talk) 18:59, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
As mentioned, you should also read (at the very least the introduction to) Commons:Licensing, as mentioned. Quoting from there: "Media licensed under non-commercial only licenses ... are not accepted." LX (talk, contribs) 19:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Okay then... So I have to travel 800 miles to take a picture myself and upload it. Maybe I use the wrong camera too ¬_¬ Anyways. I'm not going to upload any pics here in the future. Bye | CartoonistHenning (talk) 19:27, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
You may wish to have a look at NASA World Wind as an alternative to Google Earth for obtaining free geographic imagery. LX (talk, contribs) 20:12, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Mange takk at du hjelper meg å finne alternativer da ;) CartoonistHenning (talk) 22:26, 30 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello, CartoonistHenning!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

This media may be deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Oncyclopedia.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

This media was probably deleted.

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Artigpedia.png) and the above demanded information in your request.

Missing permission right? How can I explain that the creators gave me permission to upload these two images? The license and the authors are given in the table. Does Commons really need to have permission through e-mail or something? Still, the images are wiki logos on wikis which I run, so you won't get complaints from the copyright holders... CartoonistHenning (talk) 17:24, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Since the licensing claims you have made here contradict the licensing statements on http://oncyclopedia.net/wiki/Bestand:Wiki.png and http://artigpedia.org/wiki/Fil:Wiki.png (both non-free Cc-by-nc-sa rather than Cc-by-sa), you need to provide evidence of those licenses being granted by the copyright holders through OTRS, for which e-mail is required. The alternative is to have the authors indicate the licensing directly on the source sites. LX (talk, contribs) 18:00, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but it was CC-BY-NC-SA I meant for both images. I definitely oversaw the NC in the choices of the upload form. I prefer a normal wiki upload form with a full list of licenses. Can I change the licenses on the given images to the right ones, and then remove the nomination for deletion? CartoonistHenning (talk) 18:08, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Since Cc-by-nc-sa is a non-free license, files under those terms are not accepted on Commons. The only exception is if they are also published under a free license, such as the GFDL, but there is no evidence that the copyright holders have approved GFDL licensing, as you are now claiming. LX (talk, contribs) 18:54, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Who are actually the copyright holders of these two images? The host of the sites? The site's community? The only thing I can tell is that the pics are licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA 2.5 on the two wikis and that the autors are respectively for Oncyclopedia and Artigpedia http://oncyclopedia.org/wiki/Gebruiker:Roye7777777 and http://illogicopedia.org/wiki/User:Silent_Penguin . The Oncyclopedia logo is based on the original potatoe logo from http://uncyclopedia.org that is licensed under the same license. The Artigpedia logo is selfmade, by the user Silent Penguin, so thereby submitted under CC-BY-NC-SA 2.5 too. I can't understand what the problem is and why this is so difficult. Should I adapt the same description of Media:Uncyclopedia.png? CartoonistHenning (talk) 22:42, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
The authors are the copyright holders. The problem is that files whose licensing prohibit commercial use are not permitted on Commons. You need to obtain the authors' approval to publish the files under a license accepted by Commons for the files to be hosted here. This is not a matter which can be addressed just by editing the file description. LX (talk, contribs) 23:03, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Then, will you please wait a few days to give me some time contacting these authors? Where do they have to respond? Is the discussion page of these images okay? CartoonistHenning (talk) 00:11, 19 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
You should have at least seven days from the date of the tagging before the files are deleted, and they can always be undeleted if permission is received later. The authors can indicate the permission on the file description pages on the source sites. They need to approve publication under a specific license that allows anyone to use their work for any purpose, in modified or unmodified form. Noncommercial licenses or Wikipedia-only permissions are not sufficient. If you leave a note here when (if) you get the permissions, I can help you fix up the file description pages here.
