Hi, and thanks for responding to the deletion request. I have put the following comment on the request page too:
PD means "public domain", and it means the image is free to use. This applies to a lot of images (but not all) that were first released before 1923. As you're not too sure about date of release: Do you know anything else about the photo? Was it published before (in a book/magazine/paper etc.)? Are there any markings on the back of the photo? Any ideas who might have taken the image? And perhaps most importantly: Are you related to this person? (if you are, you might be the copyright holder to the image, and you can release it into the Public Domain as the heir (see Template:PD-heirs). Kind regards, -- Deadstar (msg) 10:25, 1 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I should have worked out PD. The image could well be before 1923. I know nothing else about it and have never seen it elsewhere apart from the print my mother had of it. Subject was my grandfather; I am the eldest child of his eldest child and though my mother was a female there are no descendants alive of his two sons (if that makes any difference!) so yes, I guess I hold the copyright if anyone other than the heirs of the original photographer does. I think I destroyed the print after making a digital image, so there are no clues as to who the photographer was. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chipgc (talk • contribs) 08:40, 5 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi, and thanks again. I have requested the tag to be changed to PD-Heir as, from what I can see, you are the copyright holder and can release the image. Kind regards, -- Deadstar (msg) 08:51, 6 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
(On a related note, in the Cyril Hare deletion request above, you said you might have an image of him that is free of copyright? It'd be great to have one as there isn't any at the moment. Thanks in advance. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:56, 6 September 2017 (UTC))Reply
