Bonjour, Je vois que vous importez des images en gif. En principe, c'est reservé aux images animées. Il faut plutot utiliser le format png. Et vu le type d'image, ce serait encore mieux de faire des images vectorielles, au format svg. Bien à vous, Frédéric (talk) 19:04, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Knot table

I haven't logged in for a while, so this is the first time I've seen this. I like the symmetry in your version, in my version I just drew them by hand and tried to lay it out nicely into a square. One thing that I don't like is that the knots have different "rope widths" and are different shades, so I wonder if you could change that (unless the width has some meaning I'm not aware of). Dear Jkasd, thanks for your message. There is no special meaning to the width, but seeing a left and right side is important to be able to compute the writh of the knot. But the different sizes is just because I found it nicer this way, sorry if you disagree :-) As for the shade, right, I hadn't noticed that before... Categorization - Libélo-Valence

Hi Christian,

Thanks for asking about categories for File:Libélo-Valence.jpg. I'd suggest you check out the guidelines at Categories#For_more_appropriate_categorization. The category Category:Community bicycle programs is the most specific category for the image, since it only includes images of programs like Libélo. That category is actually a subcategory of Category:Bicycle_transport, which is a subcategory of Category:Transport. If every image that included transport of some kind was in Category:Transport it would be so overcrowded as to be useless. Similarly, the Category:Community bicycle programs is a subcategory of Category:Vehicle rental which is a subcategory of Category:Automotive industry, which is a subcategory of Category:Industries. Just think of how full that category would be, if it wasn't broken down into subcategories. By using the most specific categories, we can keep things organized.

I noticed that, in terms of location, the most specific category we had was Category:Bicycle racks in France. Since that category has no subcategories, the image should stay there, but I've added Category:Valence (Drôme) to specify that it's in Valence. If, in the future, someone created Category:Bicycle racks in Valence (Drôme), we'd add that category, and remove Category:Valence (Drôme) and Category:Bicycle racks in France.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Dear Lance, frise is the French word for frieze, a motive that is to be repeated as a tile. So this pattern has to be repeated over and over again to make it seamless and endless.
