edit

Hi there,

I notice someone replaced the Cromemco logo on the English Wikipedia Cromemco article with another name-only one (i.e. without the badge). I don't know if it was you as it was done anonymously, but I'd be curious to know the rationale if it was. (I'm only assuming because it was you who uploaded the file to Commons around the same time- please ignore this message if it wasn't!)

Anyway, the older file was taken from the (then-)current Cromemco website, so it seemed accurate from that point of view. It was small and low-res, but fine in the context of the article.

Images status edit

Hi again,

I notice you've uploaded a lot of very good quality images relating to Cromemco. Given your user name, are you an official representative of the company or associated with them?

The only reason I ask is that we sometimes get people uploading images they don't have permission to, and I wanted to double-check.

Going by some of the content (i.e. informal image of the company picnic), I'm guessing that you *are* (or were) associated with the company, so my apologies if I'm coming across as nosey or suspicious(!) If you could maybe clarify your status and that of the images, that'd be really useful.

Once again, thanks for your contributions! All the best, Ubcule (talk) 22:09, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your interest and your excellent questions. I have not responded to a talk page before, so I hope that clicking "edit" and typing the response after your question is the correct protocol.
The Cromemco website with the "badge" in the logo was the Cromemco European website. After Cromemco was sold the European division was split out and continued to use the Cromemco name. I don't think that this logo was used by the U.S. company, but I will try to check additional historical records to confirm this.
As you have deduced, I was associated with Cromemco and have the rights to all the material posted, including the picnic pictures that I took myself! I have several boxes of artifacts that have been in my closet for some 35 years, and I am so glad that there is some place to post these for people interested in this amazing period of the computer industry.

Hi,
Thanks for the response, that's perfectly okay!
Since you own the rights to the images (as you say) it shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for all the pictures! Ubcule (talk) 19:20, 15 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Cromemco Z-1 advertisement January 1977.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

I apologize for not getting the permission field correctly done. I have added this tag information. It is my understanding that magazine advertisements prior to January 1, 1978 without a separate copyright notice are in the public domain. I scanned this ad from the January 1977 issue of Byte magazine. Is there anything else that I need to do? Cromemco (talk) 20:29, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Are you a sort of representative of Cromemco or just a fan? I am asking this not for COI (as we don't have such a policy on Commons), but as per our username policy, becaus company names should not be used if one is not clearly associated to that company. --Túrelio (talk) 21:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for asking! I was an officer of the company, and I have quite a collection of personal memorabilia. I'm glad to have a place to able to share it with people interested in that era of the computer industry! Cromemco (talk) 22:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it please read the text above again and follow the links in it, if you still need help ask at the   Commons:Help desk in any language you like to use. --Nikbot 18:55, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I took the picture myself, and it is a picture of Paul Terrell. Cromemco (talk) 15:00, 3 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
