First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Your account will be renamed edit

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Culturegeek. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Culturegeek~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.

ファイル名の改名方法のご案内 edit

Culturegeeksさん、こんにちは。ウィキメディアコモンズ画像のファイル名変更は、いまのところadminだけが可能です。一般利用者は、改名したい画像ファイルの画像ページ冒頭にTemplate:Renameのタグを貼ることで改名（移動）を依頼できます。新しいファイル名と改名理由を添えてください。

{{rename|新しいファイル名.jpg|改名理由の番号|改名の理由}}

です。「改名理由の番号」にはCommons:ファイルの改名ガイドラインの「どんなファイルが改名されるべき？」の表にある番号のうち、該当するものを半角数字で記入してください。アップロードしたユーザ自身による依頼は「１」ですので

初めまして、toto-tarouです。

Culturegeeksさん、画像をアップロードした際にはカテゴリ付与も検討ください。カテゴリを付与することで、より多くの人に画像の存在を知らせることができます。すでに存在する類似画像のカテゴリなどを参考にしてみてはどうでしょう。また投稿された時にこのことを思い出していただければ幸いです。^^ --Toto-tarou (talk) 01:36, 7 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
