Flamborough Map

Would you mind telling me what name you uploaded the map under on Wikipedia? Why not simply upload a new version over my existing file if it's just a minor fix? Wiki doesn't need a zillion files of the same thing... MissMJ (talk) 05:14, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Never mind, I found it and... Okay I have a huge headache and am in no mood to be particularly nice or tactful so this is going to sound quite mean but... Please stop. Stop making these hideous maps. Just because the labels needed to be larger to be read at a smaller size doesn't mean they need to be OMG SUPER HUGE the way you have made them. All they needed was a simple increase from 18pt to about 21pt or 24pt, which is what I have done to my version and placed it into the article (w:Battle of Flamborough Head). If anyone still has trouble reading them, they can just click the image for a larger version. After all, the city labels are supposed to be secondary to the main information which is the position of the squadrons. Please look up the design principles of w:hierarchy and w:emphasis, to start with.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
