Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hallo Dorado, Livländische Ritterschaft ist keine ausreichende Quelle. Das wurde offenbar aus irgendeiner Publikation digitalisiert. Die sollte dann benannt werden. Ebenso ist diese konkrete Darstellung sicherlich nicht aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Das Alter dürfte eher für die Blasonierung zutreffen, jedoch eben nicht für diese Darstellung, bei der aufgrund der vorliegenden Beschreibung noch nicht ausgeschlossen ist, dass sie geschützt ist. Gerade auch bei Wappen ist eine Sorgfalt in der Beschreibung sehr wichtig, um diese hier behalten und sinnvoll nutzen zu können. Grüße, --AFBorchert (talk) 09:18, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Noch ein Nachtrag: Beispiele wie File:Berge-Wappen 023 8.png sind schon deutlich besser, da hier das Buch und auch der Autor der Wappenzeichnung angegeben sind. Hier besteht aber die Herausforderung darin, festzustellen, wann Professor Ad. M. Hildebrandt verstorben ist. Damit das gemeinfrei ist, muss er vor 1941 verstorben sein. Die Angabe ca. 11. Jahrhundert bringt hier nicht viel, weil das wiederum nur die Blasonierung betrifft, nicht die konkrete Darstellung. --AFBorchert (talk) 09:27, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Hallo Dorado, bei diesem Wappen ist Carl Arvid von Klingspor: Baltisches Wappenbuch. Wappen sämmtlicher, den Ritterschaften von Livland, Estland, Kurland und Oesel zugehöriger Adelsgeschlechter, Stockholm 1882 als Quelle angegeben, jedoch nicht die Seitennummer. Kolorierte Wappen

Hallo Dorado. Die Lizenz PD-old kannst du nicht für Wappen vergeben, die du zusammen mit LeoDavid erstellt hast. Für private Wappen gilt, dass zwar die Beschreibung (Blasonierung) gemeinfrei ist, aber jede künstlerische Darstellung ist ein neues Werk und daher urheberrechtlich geschützt. Zudem musst du bitte auch immer die Originaldateien von Leo als Quelle angeben. Und wie gesagt, wähle bitte eine entsprechende freie Lizenz für deine selbst kolorierten Wappen. Hallo De728631. Danke für den Hinweis. Da sind LeoDavid und ich allerdings anderer Meinung: Diese Wappen wurden und werden nach alten Vorlagen, Siegeln oder Beschreibungen nachgezeichnet und erreichen daher und auch wegen ihrer schlichten Darstellung nicht die notwendige Schöpfungshöhe, um als neue, schützenswerte Kunstwerke zu gelten. Demzufolge ist die Lizenz PD-old bei den alten Darstellungen m.E. nicht falsch. Welche bessere Handhabung schlägst Du unter diesem Aspekt vor? Ein zusätzliches Hochladen der skizzenartigen, mit Bleistift gezeichneten Vorlagen (oder Teilvorlagen) von LeoDavid lehne ich wegen des unnötigen hohen Aufwandes ab. Ok, wenn die Vorlagen alt sind, dann spielen sie keine Rolle. Ich dachte, LeoDavid hätte zusätzlich noch seine eigenen Zeichnungen hochgeladen. Was die Schöpfungshöhe angeht, sind aber auch solche Zeichnungen wie eure im Sinne von Commons durchaus kreativ genug um als eigenes Werk zu gelten; es werden z. B. regelmäßig Logos gelöscht, die auch nur ansatzweise von einem simplen geometrischen Schema abweichen. Falls ihr das anders seht, könnt ihr eure Dateien ja einfach als gemeinfrei deklarieren ({{PD-user}} oder {{Cc-zero}}). Und da es sich hier um eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit handelt, schlage ich vor, dass ihr beide die Lizenzen auf den Diskussionsseiten der Dateien bestätigt. Auf diese Weise können sich hinterher keine aussenstehenden Benutzer beschweren, dass eure Dateien jeweils ohne Zustimmung des anderen lizensiert worden wären. Einschub aus meiner Mail an LeoDavid von gestern: Kannst Du bitte mal bei der Diskussion hier Deine Meinung äußern, damit wir beim Hochladen solcher Gemeinschaftswerke in Zukunft alles regelrecht und für die Urheberrechts-Kontrolleure besser nachvollziehbar machen? Eine gute Möglichkeit wäre, dass Du in Zukunft Deine "Bleistift.JPG" selbst bei Commons hochlädst und mir auf der Disku einen Hinweis dazu schickst. Ich kann diese Datei dann wie gewohnt weiterbearbeiten und als verbesserte Version hochladen. Damit wäre dann m.E. auch Deine eigentliche Urheberschaft eindeutig und nachvollziehbar. Dann werden wir das in Zukunft so machen, dass ich meine unbearbeitete Vorzeichnung mit ({{PD-user}} hochlade, auch wenn das Procedere die Flexibilät m.E. einschränkt. Zudem: Wenn es also künftig z.B. sich mal "nur" um eine Helmzier oder ein Symbol im Schild geht, werde ich das auch hochladen können, ohne dass es gleich wegen "Unsinns" gelöscht wird?. Ich glaube, ich habt mich immer noch nicht verstanden: die Bleistiftskizzen sind meiner Meinung nach überhaupt nicht von Interesse. Alles was zählt, ist das fertige Produkt, das ihr ja bereits hochgeladen habt. Laut Beschreibung gab es dafür eine Vorlage mit abgelaufener Schutzfrist, daher auch Dorados "PD-old". Ich schlage vor, dass ihr

1. die Vorlage ein bisschen näher erläutert, z. B. Siebmacher Band 8, Tafel III, oder so ähnlich; und
2. euch gemeinsam auf eine Lizenz für das fertige Bild einigt.

Mehr ist hier eigentlich nicht von Nöten. Wenn da doch noch irgendwann jemand nachfragen sollte, dann gibt es immer noch die Möglichkeit, die Skizzen per OTRS einzureichen, aber sie hier öffentlich hochzuladen, halte ich für übertrieben. De728631 (talk) 13:28, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Wappen

Du hast z.B. hier ein Wappen hochgeladen und auch gleich in die passenden Artikel eingebaut, danke nochmal dafür. Rechtlich gibt es da wohl keine Probleme, da der illustrator vor über 70 Jahren verstorben ist. Ich habe jetzt auch die Herkunft bzw. Internetquelle der Wappenbücher gefunden und bin auf ca. 15 weitere Wappen gestoßen, die für mich von Interesse wären. Ich weis nicht genau, auf welchem Wege Du sie hier hochgeladen hast? Die Bilder darf man ja runterladen, aber darf man sie dann bearbeitet auf ein Einzelbild orginal hier wieder hochladen? Ansonsten habe ich versucht ein Bild auszudrucken und zu scannen, dann ist die Qualität aber nicht mehr so gut. Über ein paar Tipps würde ich mich freuen bzw. kannst Du noch welche hochladen.--Wilkosense (talk) 13:28, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Hallo Wilkosense, natürlich kannst Du Wappen aus alten Büchern runterladen, vereinzeln und bearbeiten oder auch kolorieren und dann wieder hochladen, so wie ich das in den vergangenen Jahren hundertfach gemacht habe. Bei alten Orginalbüchern war mir klar das ich sie hochladen kann, Unklarheit besteht allerdings bei heutigen Reprintausgaben der alten Bücher und bei digitalen Versionen der Bücher (wie hier bei der Uni Göttingen). --Wilkosense (talk) 19:04, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Habe hier ein Wappen hochgeladen, kannst ja mal draufschauen, ob es so in Ordnung geht. Bei einigen anderen Wappen habe ich ein Erscheinungsdatum von 1900 und es wurde außer dem Autor (Mülverstedt) kein Illustrator (Adolf Matthias Hildebrandt) angegeben. Ich mache bei der Vereinzelung der Wappen in meinem Grafikprogramm zunächst größere Dateien daraus, verbessere die Kontraste und nehme bei Siebmachers neuen Wappenbüchern zuletzt schwarz-weiße Dateien mit möglichst weißem Hintergrund und speichere sie wegen der in WP gewünschten besseren Qualität als PNG-Datei ab. Mit der Bildbearbeitung bin ich nicht so bewandert, habe sie zwar etwas heller gemacht, bekomme sie aber nicht in der Qualität in Schwarz/weiß (bzw. nur annähernd) und PNG-Format. Soll ich die anderen Wappen trotzdem hochladen oder macht das nur mehr Arbeit als gewünscht, dazu kommen dann noch die doppelten gleichen Bilddateien.--Wilkosense (talk) 11:33, 4 September 2017 (UTC)

Wappen der Zürcher Wappenrolle

Wie gelingt es dir eigentlich, die Wappen der Zürcher Wappenrolle derart groß und scharf hochzuladen? Ich wollte nun ebenfalls zwei Wappen daraus hochladen, komme aber bei Zoom auf 600%ige Größe nicht annähernd an deine Qualität heran… -- LittleFellow (talk) 18:01, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

Hallo LittleFellow, mit meinem Grafikprogramm (PSP7) vergößere ich die aus z.B. Pusikan (1886) - Die Helden von Sempach oder aus der Zürcher Wappenrolle per screenshot herunterkopierte Wappen auf 2000 und verbessere Kontrast, Farbe und Schärfe und verkleinere i.d.Regel auf 1000 und verringere noch die Farbenzahl. Das muss man ggf. mit einem anderen Grafikprogramm entsprechend ausprobieren. Wenn es Dir nicht gelingt, kann ich das bei dem einen oder anderen Wappen gerne auf Wunsch auch für dich machen und gleich hochladen. Gruß Dorado (talk) 11:15, 10 August 2020 (UTC)

Großartig – dankeschön! Zumindest für die Herren von Hus werde ich in absehbarer Zeit einen Artikel in der deutschsprachigen Wikipedia erstellen – sie sind eines von sage und schreibe 14 Adelsgeschlechtern (9 südbadische, 5 elsässische), zu denen ich in den vergangenen Monaten entsprechendes Material gesammelt habe. Bei den Laubgassen bin ich mir hingegen noch unschlüssig, ob sie ausreichend bedeutend waren (trotz Teilnahme an der Schlacht bei Sempach). Nun ja, da du offensichtlich ein Adelsfamilienartikel+Wappen-Sammler bist, kann ich dich nach der Erstellung der Artikel gerne darauf aufmerksam machen… -- LittleFellow (talk) 19:59, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Fehlendes Wappen bei Schreibersdorf

Hi Dorado, wäre es möglich, im Artikel Schreibersdorf (Adelsgeschlecht) auch das vierte Wappen auf Wikimedia zu laden? Ich bekomme es in der Schärfe leider nicht hin. Vielen Dank, mit freundlichen Grüßen --176.3.15.160 16:22, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Guten Morgen, Ich habe das vierte Wappen bewusst nicht vereinzelt und hochgeladen, weil es exakt dem dritten entspricht bzw. nur eine gespiegelte Version darstellt. Daher bringt es m.
