Categories edit

Hi!

I'm the one that removed some categories you were adding. Usually we do not put any file or category in both a category and a subcategory of that category. E.g. any categories describing the ship Johanna TG326 are added to Category:Johanna TG326, and individual photos need only that category, plus categories pertaining to where the photo was taken, what part of the ship is in the photo etcetera, where such additional categories are useful. In this way the main categories do not become more crowded than necessary.

There may be some situations where "redundant" categories are helpful, but I did not see any obvious reason in this case. Sometimes one wants to have one or a few good pictures on the category page, e.g. for people to see what the category is about without clicking on subcategories. In that case I think it is better to put the image directly on the category page together with a category description (as if the category was an ordinary page).

Nice to see your work here!

Hi LPfi

Thanks for the info, I try to do my best :) There were other photos than the one of Johanna TG326 in the category, they were not removed from it. I started the category beacause of Johanna, which is from my town Vágur, Erik's photo was there already and I found a photo of Norðlýsið too and added: Category:Sailing ships of the Faroe Islands - and then I uploaded a few photos of other sail ships from the Faroe Islands: "Dragin" from Klaksvík and "Norðlýsið" from Tórshavn. Now there are four subcategories and three photos in this category: Category:Sailing ships of the Faroe Islands - I don't think this category will be too crowded, the Faroe Islands is a small country with 50.000 inhabitants and there are not that many sail ships, it would be nice, if one photo of Johanna TG326 could be in the group too.

Best regards

Autopatrol given edit

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 21:25, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Ok, that sounds nice, thanks :) Regards EileenSanda (talk) 21:48, 19 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:Johan Dalsgaard 2012.JPG edit

Hi EileenSanda, who is the sculptor of that statue behind the man? When was it installed? As you may know (or not), Denmark has no freedom-of-panorama exemption for non-buildings. --Túrelio (talk) 19:13, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

I uploaded this photo because of Johan Dalsgaard not because of the statue behind him. The Faroese laws are not the same as the Danish ones, but I am not sure, there was a discussion about it here earlier. The statue was installed there sometimes in the 1970'ies, the sculpturor died some years ago. The statue could perhaps be cropped out of this photo, or what it best to do? Or just delete it, it is not that important. Best regards EileenSanda (talk) 23:47, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
The Faroer have an own copyright law? Well then please provide me a link or something where it deals with works in public space (i.e., the question of freedom of panorama). If you remember that similar cases were kept in the past, please browse through Category:Danish FOP cases/deleted to find one. This little extra work would help in future cases. Otherwise, you could simply crop the statue away. --Túrelio (talk) 06:50, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, you can hava a look at a discussion about this here. EileenSanda (talk) 09:48, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have uploaded a cropped version of the same photo of Johan Dalsgaard, now without the statue, so you can delete the other photo, if the copyright law does not permit it here.
After reading through, it seems that this is the currently valid law for Faroer. However, I don't understand a word of it. If you know this language, could you try to find whether it says anything about works in public space/places? It would be worth the effort even beyond the image in dispute, as currently our COM:FOP page has no information about Faroer at all. --Túrelio (talk) 10:04, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Borkur Hanagleiv edit

Hello! Permission should be send to OTRS. Here are the instructions: OTRS. Thanks for your help! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:15, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ok, thanks, I will let the uploader know. But why have both files already been deleted? Was it not possible to wait a few minutes for User:Benadikt to send the permission? Kind regards --EileenSanda (talk) 07:25, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
OTRS has a huge backlog, 2 weeks and more. It is not feasible to wait for every single file that may or may not have proper permission, that would make it much much worse. Restoring the file(s) is no big deal and can be done in seconds. Best regards, --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:30, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I understand :) Thanks for your reply. --EileenSanda (talk) 07:44, 21 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Uncategorized transfers from fo.wikipedia edit

There are many files transferred from fo.wikipedia [1] that have no category. Probably many are politicians, (and members of "logting"?). 91.9.118.230 09:29, 19 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Yes, I have noticed. Yes, I think most of them are politician. If the source is the history of the Løgting, the person must have been a member of the Løgting. I have categorized som of them but there are many. I will do some more. --EileenSanda (talk) 11:18, 19 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Tysen takk. Better link - all until "Harald Emil Høst.png" have been touched, probably by you. There might be a robot fixing some errors in all transfers, so the indicator "(current)" may soon go away. But then Harald is the boundary where to proceed with adding a category. 91.9.118.230 18:23, 19 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Martin (Bakkafrost) edit

I saw your question at Jcb's talk page and I can confirm that Martin is in fact a used ship built in 2005. It was named Havila Princess before, and Bakkafrost made this announcement about the planned purchase. Anyhow, thank you for contributing these images. I'm currently digging through the thousands of files in Category:Shetland (check needed) and every now and then there are a few Faroese ships in there that are steaming past your southern neighbours. So may I get back to you if I have questions about these vessels? De728631 (talk) 00:26, 6 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello, yes you are welcome to ask me about Faroese vessels :) I not sure that I can be of any help, but it could be that I know about it or can find informations about it. Yes, I realized, that I had made a mistake thinking that Martin was a newly built ship, I had not heard anything about its past. Thansk for correcting me. Are you from Shetland? There are many Faroese men who are fishermen, my father was one, my uncle is too. There were many more ships here on my island (Suðuroy) some thirty years ago than now. Best regards --EileenSanda (talk) 05:30, 6 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm actually from the north of Germany, but I'm interested in aircraft and ships and there is one gentleman from Shetland who has uploaded tons of free images at Flickr which we have now imported. That's how came across this particular category. De728631 (talk) 19:27, 6 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Faroese FOP edit

Hello EileenSanda. I saw your input at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hvalastøðir og stórhvalaveiða - Søvn Landsins.jpg, saying that Faroe Islands has their own copyright law (link you provided). Per De728631 the FOP-like provision seems to be at Section (or Article?) 30 (?). To quote:

Broyting av bygningi og brúkslutum

§ 30. Bygningar kunnu broytast av ánaranum uttan loyvi frá upphavsmanninum, um broytingin er av tøkniávum ella praktiskum atlitum at nýtsluni av bygninginum.

Stk. 2. Brúkslutir kunnu broytast av ánaranum uttan loyvi frá upphavsmanninum.

I tried to find an online Faroese-English translator site, but to no avail (this one seems to have discontinued their translation services online). If you have time, can you please translate this section or article?

Right now there is insufficient information at COM:Copyright rules by territory/Faroe Islands.

Thank you. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 08:07, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@JWilz12345: Thank you for getting back to this DR. With the help of Google Translator, I found out that §30 is not about FOP but about modifications on buildings and utility devices which may be done by the owner without consent of the original architect or designer. De728631 (talk) 16:54, 14 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
@De728631: EileenSanda. Case closed! Browsing through the text via my mobile browser (Samsung Internet), I searched a key term usually present in Danish/Greenlandic FoP provisions: "Bygningar" (likely "building/s"). The term is present in §24 of the law, and this section does have similar "construction" (or pattern, if this is the more correct term) as those of the provisions I encountered in Danish and Greenlandic FoP, and to some extent Norwegian and Finnish ones. I used GTranslate even if it is very unreliable, as it helps me in looking for the pattern and hints.
§24.1 is irrelevant as it seems to pertain the exhibition in catalogs of artworks being offered for sale. What are relevant sections for us Wikimedians are §24.2 and §24.3. The former speaks of depictions of artworks permanently found on roadways or public spaces, but perhaps not applicable if the artworks become main focus of the images and the images harm the artists' rights (perhaps non-commercial use of the image only). §24.3 states the free use of buildings, can be freely depicted. So the issue on Faroese FoP is solved after all. Just the same as Danish and Greenlandic FoP: full freedom to exploit images of Faroese architecture commercially, but no similar freedom for copyrighted public monuments. I have now updated COM:CRT/Faroe Islands accordingly, but I quoted the Faroese text directly (to preserve the original meaning) instead of making a translation.
