First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

bist du selbst Peter Jong? Falls nicht, musst du für das o.g. Foto eine schriftliche Erlaubnis von Peter Jong einholen oder ihn dazu bringen, dass er die Lizenz auf Panoramio umstellt. --Túrelio (talk) 06:14, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ich habe das Bild jetzt erst einmal als vermutliche copyvio gelöscht, zumal der Löschantrag seit 17. Mai offen war. Falls du selbst Peter Jong bist, dann siehe oben. --Túrelio (talk) 19:02, 10 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Túrelio,

Nein, ich bin nicht Peter Jong. Seinerzeit hatte das Foto eine andere Lizenz und war in dieser Version auch ohne Erlaubnis, allerdings ist die Lizenz im Nachhinein geändert worden und hätte in dieser aktuellen Version nicht (mehr) ohne Genehmigung verwendet werden dürfen. Inzwischen habe ich aber selbst ein Foto vom betreffendem Objekt erstellen können und auch in den WP-Artikel eingebaut. Grüße, --Erdkröte (talk) 07:41, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Danke für die Rückmeldung. Nur zum Verständnis: retroaktive Lizenzänderungen eines einmal "freigelassenen" Bildes sind eher unwirksam und werden von uns ignoriert, sofern ein Prüf-Log aus der Zeit mit der freien Lizensierung vorliegt. Für Flickr-Bilder (Flickr-review) gibt es das schon lange, für Panoramio-Bilder leider erst seit kurzem. Gruß. --Túrelio (talk) 08:26, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your account will be renamed edit

Hello,

The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.

Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Erdkröte. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Erdkröte~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.

Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
