Fallout boy~commonswiki
Hi, I noticed you uploaded this image. What was your basis for tagging it cc-by-sa? At Flickr it says "All rights reserved" (i.e, Commons can't use it). Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 08:45, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, take it easy, I was two minutes too long writing you a message here! If she's given special permission, there needs to be a record of it somewhere. At least her giving permission needs to be able to be checked. Secondly the condition, that the name credit must stay on the image, is incompatible with the cc-by-sa licensed as I stated, because sa means ShareAlike. That means all deriviative works are allowed as long as they have the same license. So cropping to remove the name credit is OK. I don't know if she is clear about what that license means or not. Allowing derivative works is not an optional thing here. If she requires the name credit at all costs, we can't host the image. Thanks for your help in clearing this up, I look forward to your reply. pfctdayelise (translate?) 08:49, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- I messaged her and and got permission specifically to license it under a commercial attribution-sharealike license. As for why it says all rights reserved, either she hasn't updated its licensing information or can't individually license photos. --Fallout boy 08:50, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- As for the name credit, I didn't think that was a violation of the no derivs licensing since one of the CC licensing terms is to allow the author to select their attribution manner. But if it is, I'll double check w/ the owner to make sure she knows the exact licensing terms. I'm sorry if I sounded moody in my first reply, but based on the initial missing info tag I thought you may have not read the summary.--Fallout boy 08:59, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
- It's not enough to just say that you messaged her, we need some kind of public record of her agreeing. For example m:OTRS#Miscellaneous "Permissions" (although it says text, it is used for images as well, and not just GFDL - you forward her message to permissions at wikimedia dot org). Then you can just put the OTRS ticket number on the page and anyone can look it up. But often people publish the permission less informally, like this: Category talk:Photographs by Samuel Bala (this is what I did). You can see exactly what the author has and hasn't agreed to. Some people think that if they agree for their work to be used in Wikipedia, that's strong enough. It's not.
- If she agreed to cc-by-sa then please remove the line falsely stating that the name credit must stay on the image.
- Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:05, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Thanks very much for your co-operation, that looks great. pfctdayelise (translate?) 02:47, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
meaningful files names edit
Also, while I'm here :) I noticed some of your recent uploads have some shocker file names - like Image:16927979 f358c32972.jpg. Please try to make sure your files have at least somewhat meaningful names, as files can't be easily moved like articles can (they have to be reuploaded and the old one deleted). Thanks, pfctdayelise (translate?) 09:16, 13 March 2006 (UTC)
Full size edit
Hi Fallout. Another request: please get the largest version available when copying photos from Flickr. I just uploaded larger versions of the pictures of Aimee Mann. Cheers, User:dbenbenn 22:31, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- Also, when you upload a cropped or modified version of an image, please upload the original first (with the same name). That way, anyone can see what changes you made, and maybe improve on them. See the "File history" section of Image:JessicaBielstealthpremiere.jpg, for example. User:dbenbenn 22:57, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Props edit
Creative props for this postage stamp of Jimbo Wales! What an awesome idea. =) --Lantoka

Removal of URL edit
Whenever I upload images, I always include the URL to the page the image is on, and the url of the image itself. Either one could go bad, independent of the other. Often a page has multiple images. Also, an image url, often gives a unique identify. Sometimes its not instantly obvious, if two similiar images can from the same original. Also, in theory, the image url, could be used to automatically detect when two images have the same original version. So, I'm not sure why you opted to drop one of the two URL's in Image:Snoop Dogg Hawaii.jpg. Maybe in this case, it's easy for somebody to refind the image, but in other cases it wouldn't be. I'm not so concerned about this one image, but wandering if you plan on a similiar url-removal for other images. --Rob 08:19, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Why is this image listed as CC-BY-SA here, but as CC-ND at Flickr? Can you clear this up? Jkelly 21:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed edit
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Fallout boy. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Fallout boy~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
