Hello, Farwestern!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Goat Peak edit

Hi Farwestern; I enjoyed seeing File:Goat Peak, Cascades.jpg which you added recently to en:William O. Douglas Wilderness and would like to invite you to join COM:GEO. At least two mountains share the name "Goat Peak" in Washington. Your peak is in en:Okanogan National Forest (ll=48.6319,-120.4050) and should be placed in that article.[1] Best wishes, 16:00, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Beebe_bridge_historical.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Beebe_bridge_historical.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

Lulworth Cove panorama edit

Thank you for uploading your panorama File:Lulworth_Cove,_UK_360°_Panorama.jpg. It is a good image, but spoiled by the sea horizon being uneven. It seems you created the panorama without setting any horizon control points. Most panorama software provides a feature for setting horizon control points. Could you recreate the panorama with horizon control points, please? Alternatively, could you upload the original sub-images, so somebody else can have a go at recreating the panorama with a flat horizon? Thanks. 85.94.184.115 22:08, 13 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

A kitten for you! edit

Thank you for your Vantage 270! I'm from the area and have been stuck on the other coast for the past several years. Yours is a great cure for homesickness.

Photo usage edit

Hello :-)

I just wanted to say "Thank you very much" for your picture: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:San_Francisco_de_la_Sierra_Canyon_270.jpg

My name is Daniel, i used that picture in my little "travel around the world" puzzle game for android.

When a player sees your image (when completing a level) there is a short sentence describing the location visible on your panorama and also you are credited directly as "Photographer". Hopefully you are fine with that, if you want any changes please contact me directly. :-)

A cup of locally roasted PacNW coffee for you! edit

I absolutely love the panorama of Mount Ellinor. I live in Mason County and your picture really captures the awe I feel everyday looking at the beauty around me. The Olympic Mountains were named after the home of the Greek gods, and when you look at this photo, you can understand what the explorers were thinking. Thank you. :) Majriti (talk) 01:54, 12 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
