There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, Fractaler!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:Wikifood.png. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this file is not a derivative work of a non-free work, please explain why on the file's talk page.

File:Wikichiken.png edit

File:Wikichiken.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Permission to use figure in a book. edit

Dear Fractaler,

I am working with Prof. Steven LaValle to help obtain permissions for borrowing figures or pictures in his upcoming book Virtual Reality, to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is online here:

We are hoping to include the picture of yours:

This media was probably deleted.
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Martinov V V.jpg, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:Martinov V V.jpg).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Free source. Also --Fractaler (talk) 14:04, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
As far as I can see, that source does not mention the GNU Free Documentation License or the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license (the licenses you claimed the photo was published under). There is nothing whatsoever in that source indicating that it is free. And there is no indication that you are the copyright holder, as you claimed when you uploaded the file.
Please note that recreating previously deleted content yourself instead of requesting undeletion through Commons:Undeletion requests is a serious violation of Commons rules. Recreating content yourself after an undeletion request was denied, as Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive/2017-08#File:В.В.Мартынов (8).jpg was, is even more serious and is the sort of thing that will frequently lead to uploaders being blocked. LX (talk, contribs) 15:26, 28 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
Ok, how to prove that it is free? --Fractaler (talk) 10:48, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
It almost certainly isn't free. To change that, you would have to convince the copyright holder of the photo to agree to publish it under a free license. The first step would be to figure out who created the photo. LX (talk, contribs) 16:41, 1 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Photo is a homonym: 1) non-digital photo; 2) digital photo ("e-photo"). What do you mean? --Fractaler (talk) 10:34, 2 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
I mean the photographer that pointed a camera at the face of this individual, released the shutter and created the original portrait photograph. LX (talk, contribs) 16:42, 2 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Set "portrait photograph" is a subset of the set "photograph/photo". So, "portrait photograph" also is a homonym. And what should this photographer do (with the digital portrait photograph? with the non-digital photo?)? --Fractaler (talk) 06:37, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
What are you even talking about? You need permission from the copyright holder. That's most likely the photographer. If, rather than obtaining permission from him or her, you'd rather discuss lexical semantics, that's up to you, but I won't be wasting my time. LX (talk, contribs) 09:53, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, but I can not understand such a polysemantic terminology. You need permission from the copyright holder: the file was therefore published because it has permission. --Fractaler (talk) 10:45, 3 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Code issues in User:Fractaler/vector.js edit

Hi Fractaler, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

 1. You edited User:Fractaler/vector.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
 2. Though, that change appears to introduce 5 new jshint issues — the page's status is now having ERRORS. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
 3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
